Polar shift, interesting stuff I never knew?

Crazy stuff, isn't it? We always consider the "tippy top" of the Earth, like you see on a globe, as the North Pole (which it is)...BUT, where a compass actually points is towards the magnetic North Pole because the Earth is one big magnet from all the molten iron at its core. That molten iron moves around a little bit, so the "Earth's magnet" moves around a little bit.

Also, every so often the North & South poles "flip". As far as I know, none of this is anything to worry about.

Nothing to worry about!!!

If it flips total disorientation. Cats and dogs sleeping together, the birds might turn around, the English might start driving on the right, Van Allen goes nuts, who knows what else will happen?

Magnetic north is always moving, its even flipped in the past but that doesn't happen but every few hundred thousand years.

If you have a newer vehicle, there's actually a chart in your owner's manual that shows magnetic north and the flux lines.

Depending on where in the country you live, you may need to re-calibrate your compass.

The lines shift more away from North/South the further West you go, IIRC.

Well, I don't think it would hurt anyone directly, but you make a reasonable point. I'm sure there are some "electronic somethings" out there that would go completely haywire. You make an interesting point about birds too.....would they fly North for the winter by mistake? I wonder.

Santa Klaus/Kringle has always been of Russian descent.

There is crust shift too, where the Earth's crust moves around the inner planet. There is the Pieri Reis map from 1513(known for perfect longitude)that shows the land mass of Antarctica about 30 degrees northeast of its current position. Also shows it as green, foliated. Current tomography shows lay of land under ice as it's projected on the antique map.

I saw that on a "Searching for Atlantis" type show.

Just wait till your toilets swirl the wrong direction or not at all and the sun comes up in the south and sets in the north. All possibilities.

3B, common.....you know those two things won't change, right?

all data 1's turn to 0's and vice versa.
