I’m new here and I’m new to the Mopar world. I’ve been IH and GM up until now. I recently acquired a 1971 Satellite. Body is really good, no motor or transmission. I’m wanting to build a “daily”, but not a true daily. Something reliable and fun to drive, but something I can take and attempt to run time trials and autocross a little.

I have a few questions, but one at a time.

I’m planning on running a magnum 318 with a manual transmission. But the car was originally an automatic. I was thinking about an NV3500. Will this fit? And what’s a good starting point for hanging a third pedal?

Search for "gear splits" on here and FABO.

Those trans have truck style splits which will turn any rear ratio lower than 3.23 and possibly 3.55 into a granny first which will be almost unusable.

"Regular" NP833 Mopar trans with gear vendors overdrive or Passion 855 5 speed are likely the best options.

If you don't mind cutting the trans tunnel and fabricating part of the cross member, a TKO 5 or 6 can be used but I've read about some leakage issues on early models.

You can fit a 5spd out of an early dakota with no cutting but it probably won't hold up to a lot of abuse. Depends how you drive and what kind of HP the motor will put out.

what do you disagree with?

Y’all are awesome. I appreciate all the info. I only have one pic and that’s when I came home from getting her.

Anyone got any suggestions on hanging a third pedal in an originally automatic car?

Herlitz also did the 67 Barracuda, and you can tell all three were from the same hand.
