Im putting together a 67 Coronet in the Nostalgia Super Stock/ 70s Drag Car theme, and was wondering if there is any reason behind doing just a mini, mini tub rather than a full mini tub modification.

I currently already have offset shackles and the front spring mount is moved all the way into the frame rail (done in the 70s non the less!), And I have plenty of spring clearance with the current 295/50R15 tires. Id really like to go up to a 28x10.5 size tire, and I think I could do so with just a tad bit more inner fender clearance. Maybe 1" would do it? (current setup has 2" of spring clearance, and about 3/4" of inner fender clearance - but thats with a 5/8" spacer that Id like to remove - without the spacer the tire just kisses the inner fender but enough to cut the sidewall if the inner fender was not rolled over a bit)

So is there any reasoning behind doing just a small mini tub, or is the work the same and I should do the whole thing, even though I dont need all the space, and would probably never move the springs in any further or shorten the rear end to use the space anyways.

I figure I may be able to get away with less modifications to the rear seat/seat belt bolts/decklid hinges etc, if I just do a small 1" tub. The original rear seat upholstery is still in good shape, so Id rather not have to recover it to modify the sear seat for example. (But I may be doing 90% of the work anyways, and should just go all the say and do the full mini tub.) I'll be doing the work myself, so keeping it simple is better wherever possible. If so, is there a width that makes it easiest, with the least amount of modifications elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for any input guys!

If you can already fit a 295/50 in there, that should be plenty of tire.

I have a full mini tub...nothing done to the seat...

I was looking at a 66 or 67 Coronet and thinking to myself that the tubs were already huge compared to my '69 RR !!

Thanks Guys for the input. My outer fender clearance is not as good as I would like, but I haven't driven it yet to see if and where it rubs. I'm working with modifications my father in law did in the 70s, so its a little trial and error figuring out what is right and what is not. I guess I'll keep it as is for now, at least until I feel the need to relocate the springs and do the full mini tub and go really big on the tires. Plenty of other things that need attention in the mean time. I think a slight change in wheel spacer width and some 1" lift leaf springs will give me just enough room to go up to a 28" tire, and get that nasty 70s rake going.

The springs are usually more of an issue than the inner wheel well. On my sons 62 we moved the front hanger flush to the outer frame rail. Redrilled a few mount holes. Then welded the hanger to the outer frame raol. Drilled a hole in the inner frame rail for spring eye bolt access. The rear shackles are to far rearward for drag use anyway. So instead we fabbed a plate with sliders from Speedway. Weld the plates to the frame, sliders to the plates. Still plenty of room for Cal Tracks if you desire

Yeah, the springs have already been pushed all the way to the frame rails. I dont have any issues w/ spring clearance. - Id really like to do super stock springs, just to try them out and for the nostalgia of it, but that would require redoing the hanger (currently welded in place)

Here's a 67 with 315s 60 r15.

Love 315's. Have them on my Challenger. The wheels are off at Weld Wheels now getting polished double bead locks done.

Well if you do mini tub it I wouldn't cut the spot welds and split it there like every one does, measure over 3 inches from the lip, buy aftermarket inner whell wells and cut them to overlap slightly. And use them for the template on the floor, much easier and nicer looking

Thanks for the info guys. And yeah, those 315s do look great!

Stock suspension.
Year One 17" x 9" wide, 5" backspacing rear wheels.
315/35/17 Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials
Fit so well, centered and ZERO rubbing, they should have come from the factory this way.

Ultimately I am looking for rear tire width like this, minimum.
