I have seen two mods mentioned and I would love more info on them

The first was an E-body rear in these cars, will it fit in my 73 Charger? If so what do I need to looking for? What is the width of the B-body one versus the E?

Second was removing a piece of bumper trim and moving the bumper towards the body, how is this done?

The B body axle widths between 1971-74 are very close to the E body but the spring mounts are further apart on the B body.
To recess the bumper, the holes in the brackets need to be elongated.

71-74 b bodies are approx. 47.3 inches center of spring perch to center of spring perch. E bodies are 46 inches center to center

If your wanting to move springs inward for wider rear tires I would get a 68-70 rear housing. .44 inches center of perch to center of perch

The E body axle is a better match for the hard to find 71-74 B body 8 3/4, and the E body part is easy to find and cheap since nearly every V8 E body got one.

The 68-70 part is usually harder to find and more expensive as "eveyone" is looking for that one.

If he is going for a wider rear tire under a third gen then I don't think an e body would be narrow enough. .just my thoughts.

OP didn't say anything about changing tire width.

Regarding the bumper situation:

Rear bracket from a 71/72 will pull your bumper in so you can eliminate the filler.
Fillers are scarce, so save it if it's nice and make some $ back.

I've heard you can cut and weld 73/74 brackets, but there's some math involved due to the angles.

For the front, slotting your brackets is the way, since the 71/72 brackets won't line up with your ISO-comp frame horns.

I am interested in putting more tire under the rear of the 73 Charger. I have and have no problem moving the springs in board 3”. I’m also not opposed to just building a C-body 8 3/4 as I already have a housing that I was gonna put in my Demon but that may get a D60 instead. Either may the MoPar swap in Indy is coming up soon and I’m sure I can find a housing there. I presume an A-body one is too narrow?

Around here, B body parts show up more often than E cars. Not sure of the production numbers but think there were much fewer E's produced. Also, a 66-67 rear is only about 1/2" shorter than the 68-70 rears on the average so that opens the door some more and yes, the A rear is even shorter.....

I know the A-body rear is shorter, but will it fit on moved in springs and actually have wheels bolt up?

A body 8 3/4 axles command super premium prices to the A body crowd.

I'd not put one in a B body.

I'd sell it to an A body guy for $300 or more and go buy an E body axle for $100.

I know the prices they fetch, however that doesn’t answer my question. I have zero plans on getting rid of my 8 3/4 a-body axle.

The bumper fillers are being made for the 73 and 74 chargers in case you want to avoid the hassle and keep the originality

I met a guy at Don Garlits that said they were tooling up for the centers.

It was NOT Detroit Muscle.

They are pricey, though.

$100 each for the corners and $200 for the center.

I've bought whole 73/74 Chargers for less that that total :)

No waaaay! do you think so? LOL

tell me what is not pricey for us ?

I got a new front center piece from a guy who reproduced a small ammount of them. $150 each
