Hi guys
This is my first post and after researching for hours day after day i'm overwhelmed with all the options of 4 links out there. I'm currently building a protouring 69 Roadrunner and am wanting to lower the car as much as possible. I've decided to go with coilovers instead of air. I've looked at a few different kits such as the Ridetech bolt on and have asked them a few questions such as when installing the kit with the spring relocation kit does that raise the ride height? they said no it doesn't but in theory it does bringing the coils from a diagonal to parallel. I talked to Bill from RMS who was great on the phone and was very helpful and he explained that he does change the coilover size when mounting the coil inward to get the lower ride height. ridetech says there kit will lower the car approx 2" but they didn't seem to know what would happen if i moved inboard.

I could get the ridetech kit with out the coilovers install it then measure my ride height and order coils at a later date.

What would you guys recommend? I feel I would go with the RMS but it is a month away where the ridetech is a few days away. Are there any other kits you guys would recommend? CF, Gerst

Whats everyone running these days Tri or Parallel ? What would be better for a street cruiser with the odd track day

Is there a difference between running your coilovers in front of the diff opposed to behind the diff other then clearance issues?

I also would like a rear sway bar and not sure if i got one from say Control Freak or RMS if it would fit another brand of 4 link?

Any help would be appreciated so much information and produces out there so easy to get overwhelmed.

I installed the RMS 4 link on my buddies Duster which had the relocation done at the same time. Easy to do, and his car looks/rides so much better. It’s worth the wait, so get it on order.

Do yourself a favor and talk to all of them first.
I personally went with a Gerst front setup, but rms is good as well.
Definitely worth waiting a month or so for quality and tech support if needed.

What's a better 4 link for a street touring car which will see a track once or twice a year. Tri or parallel ?

I am happy with my Gerst front end which is similar to the RMS.

I went with a triangulated 4 link in the rear from Control Freak because i was installing
a bare ford 9 inch housing and saved a little money welding my own brackets on.
Lower price but alot more welding.

Finding a rear swaybar that will fit is difficult due to the way the shocks lean in toward
the top. I have verified the factory 69 charger rear swaybar won't fit.

If I remember correctly both Gerst and RMS rear kits utilize the factory spring mounting
pads which I do not have on my axle housing. And the lower arms bolt into the forward
factory spring locaters. A bit more money but less welding.

Customer service post-purchase from Gerst and Control Freak have both been excellent.

Thanks for all the replies guys
So I have talked to Gerst and there in progress of making a rear sway bar for the street for there 4 link. I also talked to Bill at RMS and he said that his rear 4 link is stiff enough and if you were to put a sway bar on it would be too stiff.

Just wondering what everyone's thought were on this and if anyone who has a rear RMS system would benefit if they had a sway bar behind it.
I'm thinking I might end up going with a Gurst system just because of the option of having a sway bar kit for it.

My buddies Duster has the RMS 4 link and it handles pretty nice without a rear sway bar. But if your gonna slide your car around, a sway bar might be a good idea.

You could add an anti roll bar to the rms if you really wanted, not necessary though. Look at blll Reilly’s YouTube channel, he road races his cars with his suspension on it, no sway bar.

For my 70 V-code Roadrunner, that I use mostly for cruising, as well as a full 8 days of cruising up and down the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the occasional 1320 sprint at the track-which I hope will become a once or twice a month activity, I am absolutely going with a triangulated rear suspension system, Gerst or RMS although Carl Gerst has a slight edge IMO I haven't chosen yet.

Why do you feel Carl Gerst has a slight edge?
I know im over thinking things but I also want the best. There pretty much identical systems I believe.
Still not sure who to choose. I feel the RMS is a more popular system and im sure the Gerst sway bar would probably fit on the RMS kit also being there so similar.

What front K member system is the more popular one? The GTS or Alterkon

Why do you feel Carl Gerst has a slight edge?
From a talk with Carl about slight but relative differences between the 2 and how that could be a slight benefit, having to do with adjustability of instant center. I have not talked with Bill at RMS at all.
Haven't decided between the 2.
I just got a complete QA1 front suspension system with SPC UCAs and that's still in the boxes.
I already have 3 way Competition Engineering CEE-2730 rear shocks and 18 way double adjustable Viking front shocks, everything else is stock. QA1 install is next, but I need to tune/fix my carbs to run better.
Time......

I would stay away from anything Control Freaks. I was talking to him about an older system that came with a project I bought. He did answer my calls and at first was pretty good. Then he told me the system was set up for a G3 hemi, then he told me it was for a B-RB. I said good, I need motor mounts for it, they had gotten lost in the project. He said he didn't make them any more. I asked if he could make some and he said he didn't have the fixtures any longer. Ok, then can you give me the drawings for it, which he said he did have. He said "no, it's intellectual property and I don't give that out". Hmmmm, you don't make them and don't want anyone else to make them. I guess once they change the design, they stop support, so in about 5 years when you need "proprietary parts" for your Control Freaks system, you'll have to engineer your own or buy another system. By the way, he got rude with me in the end because I asked him those questions and what happens when a motor mount breaks. My $0.02 is steer clear. I'd go Gerst or RMS, I went Gerst and have three of his front K member systems and one of his rear 4 links. Carl is a good dude.

Whatever you get check your parts to make sure they are correct. My street lynx sat in the box for a year before I installed and once I did install I found out he had sent me a mismatched coilover set up. 9” shock and a 12” spring. Spoke to bill and he swears there no way I got that spring on the shock if they are what I say they were (ever hear of a spring compressor?) Even with picture evidence he simply stopped responding to my emails. Got with PST and got the correct length shock and spring ordered, cost me over $600 extra. Photo attached clearly shows the spring is too big for the shock.

I have a Gerst rear setup coming to put on my roadrunner. I ordered his sway setup too, I don't think you can get too stiff when running the rear sway, just adjust your coils to compensate. Tri link will get some better ride too, that's what I got as well. If you plan to run big tires you will have to get a spring relocation kit in conjunction with the rear kit from GTS.
