I've been trying to do this for a couple of years now....I had promised @tallhair that I would get it done. Finally updated my PP software, and put this together for your enjoyment.

This car was bought by me in 1984 - half way through my apprenticeship, and stayed with me for 4 years. At owner number 22, I inherited a well driven and beaten up car. Being a member of the local Chrysler Restorers car Club, I took it upon myself to revive the old girl. Came up not too bad in the end....with a lot of help from good friends.

That's awesome Roger!! I love the "backyard spray booth". The EPA nuts would string you up by your shorthairs if you tried that today. Thanks for sharing that.

Thank you for that Kiwi. Very well done. If I had ever put that much work into a car, I doubt that I could ever part with it. LOL

Nice work on the project! Feels good to do the work yourself. And BTW, we still do it today, except I personally do the "front yard driveway spray booth." probably wrong and illegal but haven't been stopped yet!

and this is in California too, with all the VOC restrictions and such. still able to get away with it no problem

did you know what happened to the car after you sold it ?
Vaguely...I tried tracking it down about 18 years ago...my painter and I went on a road trip. We tracked it to a small-time drug dealer type of guy down country. My painter came from the same town, so we decided to give up on chasing the car any longer. It must have changed hands another 5-6 times after I had it. I sold it to a local drag racer who gave it to his wife to race. She grenaded the 8-3/4 head after a massive burnout....she's a keeper BTW :D They then sold it on to someone out of town....and that's when my tracking started.

Thanks B. I was more upset about selling that Charger than I have been over my GTX....funny, because the GTX was a way nicer car. I guess it was because the Charger was my first MoPar.....and it was a struggle the whole way through.

BTW, I eventually found a nice rear bumper and rear window trim just prior to selling the car....all those years , and I finish it for someone else to enjoy. I think I have seen only one photo with the rear bumper on that car. I still have 3 of the 4 original wheel covers for that Charger. My Grandfather bought them for me as a surprise gift from a Panel-beater who had worked on the car years before I owned it....that was probably the best gift I have ever been given. :)

Cool video and a great looking Charger, thanks for sharing.

Cool video Kiwi

 looked pretty damn good too

I wish I had some more of my old cars
in photos, especially my racecars,
I need to convert some from Polaroid to digital too
especially when multiple Charger's & RR's & Power Wagons
or even the Camaro's, Firebird's/Trans Am's & GTO's (I know),
in the driveway, when I was still living at home
(always had to be cleaned up every evening or else)

It really pissed my Mom off :poke:
(she had a couple of cars towed off, when I let stuff 'linger' too long)
my step dad was OK with it & I 'usually' kept it neat
Bob had quite a few too, that's how I learned
I did a few "so, so" garage paint jobs myself
I did a few primer jobs outside, never tried to paint outside

Not sure I could do a video like that either
:thankyou:

The trick to painting outside is you need to make sure there is no wind that day and the weather is good and dry. Get it all prepped beforehand. Roll in out onto the sunny driveway and shoot her down. Done a couple cars like this they turn out good. You do run the risk of a bug or peice of dust landing on it but it's always turned out quite well and I never really notice the imperfections. I like single stage ( basically all I use) which also makes it easier to fix in the end. Easy to touch up, wet sand, and buff out, unlike base/clear. Tcp global sells good single stage urethane that is dirt cheap amd comes in many colors. Less than 150 shipped for a gallon kit that comes with hardener, filters, stir sticks. and I personally think the quality is more than good enough for a driver. Shoots well. Not thin or semi transparent, covers good.

Now, If your car is a show car, then that's where I'd recommend shooting it in a shop. In addition single stage seems to be out of favor these days and for most people who use base/ clear systems, it may be more unrealistic to shoot outdoors.

Well done! Looks great too.. Thanks!

I will say you couldn’t paint anything outside here in Maine. The damn black flies and mosquitoes would be all through the paint!
