Hello,
I finally have my 70 Road Runner running well however the oil pressure seems high. The original gauges no longer work so we hooked up a aftermarket mechanical guage where the oil runs through the line to the back of the guage. It consistently shows above 60psi. The oil mark on the dipstick looks good (not overfilled), is this normal? Any thoughts? Thank you!

At idle or with RPM. My, rebuilt in 1979, 383 Magnum has always had 45/48 at idle and 65/70 on the pedal, running 10W30. Runs like a top to date..

Mine is always pretty well up there and lowers after it gets hot after running for some time. I'm finding a tad lower OP now that I'm using a lighter weight racing oil...

My 440 idled cold at 70 psi; hot at 45 to 50. I verified it with two other mechanical gauges. It seemed high; but I ran it like that for the 10 years that I had the car.

I added a mechanical gauge to my 65 Poly 318 and had to switch to a Wix racing filter as the gasket leaked by on the standard filter. It didn't like the cold 80psi! Fresh engine and I may have shimmed the relief valve (can't remember-old age).

You need to know if the engine is cold or hot, what oil you run in it, and what it is at idle. Probably not a problem.

60 warn at idle. Have seen 95 at wot. Just don't run an 80 psi gauge. Never have gotten the oil out of the carpet.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like nothing I should worry about right now. Agree, gotta keep an eye the gauge so that it doesnt blow oil out everywhere if it gets too high. I dont think im in that danger zone hopefully!

I installed an electric gauge as a buddy had a mess in his car when the line broke. After all the new stuff in the car, carpet, stereo, etc. the few psi an electric gauge may be off from a mech one I thought a fair trade off.

My 383 runs a steady 80psi hot, going down the track.
40psi hot idle(1100-1200).
Cold start up it’s right at about 100psi @2500-ish.

Stock pump with the MP spring in it.

I’ve never had any issues with the filters.
