Starting a build thread for my 67 Coronet 440. Will link the welcome post, but it's all original with a 318 2bbl, 727, and 741 case 8 3/4. Plan for the build is a late 60's early 70's super stock(ish) car. I love the W023, but want it to be a little more street friendly. But I'm trying to keep most parts vintage, or that would have been available in the 70's. I like some body roll and factory characteristics of these old cars. I started off with the basics...
-Rear drums and shoes 10x2.5" with adjusters
-Front shoes 10x2.5" (didn't want to mess with the swaged studs yet)
-Front bearings, nuts, cotters, etc.
-KYB gas-a-just on all corners
-440/426 Leaf springs

Was scouring craigslist and ran into an RV 440. Out of a 78 Georgie Boy with 6200 miles. Spent the morning ripping it out and its in great shape. Even had headers haha. Going to do some minor stuff to it and try to stuff it in the Coronet. A new output shaft and the extension housing from my small block 727 should, hopefully, make use of the hd 727 from the RV.

Some of the suspension is being stubborn. Can't blame it for being 51 years old and looking like they never came off. Got the front left shock cut off and the new KYB in. Will work on getting the U bolts cut and get this thing sitting right.

440 out of the truck and on the stand. Everything getting stripped off. All the bolts and threads in great shape. Whiplash cam, lifters, springs, and performer RPM intake in the plan so far.

Just so you know truck headers are WAY different than car headers.

Yep I know, these things are going into the trash heap. Especially since I about sliced off the entire tip of my thumb messing with getting the passenger side off. I don't think I'll be able to stomach TTI price, but probably beat on some Hookers or Hedmans to stuff in eventually.

Old suspension cut and muscled out. Don't think anything has ever been touched in 50 years and over 150k miles. I've got all the new stuff installed and will be getting pics. Heavy duty leafs, AC Delco shackles, KYB shocks, Summit U bolts, and a good bit of cleaning. Also new drums and pads in the rear. And have a new stud that needs to go in the rear. Guessing someone didn't get the LH thread memo before me.

Forgive the garage mess. Was excited to get it back on four wheels and sitting better. Got it moving and realized it needed a LOT more ATF than it had in it. Would barely go into gear. It took all 5qts I had to make it happier. It's real hard to read the dipstick accurately. Also need to open up the adjusters on the drums. But it shifted through all gears, stopped somewhat, and the suspension didn't fly off...success for now. Going to get some more ATF+4 I can tell already the shifts are harder, adjust the shoes, and take her out finally.

Back on the road. Bled all four corners and found out I was just really low on ATF. Reading perfect now. Love this car. 15x8 4.5bs wheel vintiques should be here soon and I'll find out if I can stuff 275/60r15 Cooper Cobras under the rear. Probably not, but I'll give it a shot.

I'm curious if the pistons in that MH engine are more than .100 down in the hole....and if you like the old school body roll, don't use the KYB's lol

If you have the right offset those tires will fit.

Hah here's to hoping. I did tons of searching around here and the net and was really torn between the 275's and 255/70's. I'm pretty close to liking the stance now though, so an inch more in height should be about right. If not, I may do some massaging or trim screw trimming. I don't plan on ever selling this car or going back original :)

I'm sure they are. It was running before I pulled it and it sounded like a dump truck lol. I'm torn between throwing in the Whiplash and calling it a day, or investing in zero deck pistons and seeing what the 452 heads can do. It has the serial that denotes a cast crank at least. Hah yeah, it's certainly tightened up with the heavy duty leafs and the KYBs. It's a whole lot boomier now as the saggy suspension isn't soaking up the road like it was before haha. I still like it though, I think I'll like it more with big block weight in it and the battery in the back. W023 here I come! :p

what is the right offset?
66 coronet

btw, great job Op,and fast turnaround as well

I've heard between 4.5 and 5" to put thick rubber near the middle. There seems to be a lot of variability between even same year cars though...and sometimes 1/16"+ difference between the L and R. And thanks!

Fat rear steel showed up today. One is real clean, the other the rim was welded kind of offset...tripped my OCD. But for what they cost, I'll see if they fit and balance out. Rubber should be in tomorrow and I'll test fit the wheels to see if they go on

Correct - 4.5 5.0 offset

Local cars and coffee this morning. Pretty good turnout. Always get questions about the Dodge...half of them are if it has a 440 -.- Not yet, but soon...it will sound a bit different lol

Nice looking Coronet. Once you put the rears on post back on the fit.
I have 245/60s on a 7" and would like to get a little more under the back.

Thanks, will do. They're getting mounted right now. I eyeballed the wheel and tire. Going to be tight for sure, but I'll post back pics
