I love the super stock look, and specifically want to raise rear suspension on my '67 Satellite and run 28" tall tires. I have run super stock springs on other cars and I'm familiar with how they ride.. not terrible, but ok.

I will never, ever drag race this car, don't have a ton of power (mostly stock 360) and just want the stance and a decent ride.

Any suggestions as to a ride-height raising alternative to super stock springs that would be a better ride quality and cheaper (compared to a full set of SS with hangers and shocks costing around $400 shipped)?

I will say, last time I ran super stocks i was not using good shocks. If I end up doing it again, I will probably use some 25" kyb gas-a-just shocks (D200).

Does anyone with a '67 satellite and super stocks care to share their stance photos?

Thanks,
Andrew

You could flip the perches to the top side of the axle, gaining you about 3 inches. Not sure what’d it’d do to ride quality though

Both ESPO (Springs and Things) and Eaton offer +1 and +2 springs that will give you the extra height in the back. I would think that would be a better option than adding the super stock springs.

A spring shop should be able to add a leaf to your springs. That would give you an inch. Pretty much what I do.

Here's a few pics of my '63 before I started the restoration. It had the original rear leafs that were showing there age. I added a set of booster shocks, the ones with the coil springs on them, and that raised it to the level as pictured. I was able to run 275/70x15 out back easily. The car was a /6, so NO real power concerns there, and the ride was very comfortable for everyday driving. Also, you can usually pick a set of these up for under a $100...

what brand did you go with?

I contacted ESPO, thanks for the tip. I wonder if the +2 option will bring me up to the same height as super stocks? If i recall they added around 4"... but that was compared to old saggy springs.

Sorry, I don't remember, but I probably just ordered them from Jegs or Summit. They are currently on my '65, for the same reason, with the sagging original rear
springs. I may get a chance later, to get out to my trailer and see if the shocks have any ID on them. Found these other pics:

That looks awesome! Exactly the look I prefer.

Careful though! That shock mount was not intended to carry the weight of the rear of these cars. I have seen where people have run air shocks and destroyed that shock mount. Running coil-overs could do the same thing as you are still putting the majority of the cars weight on that shock mount crossover.

Much better to do it by swapping out the leafs, then to try to support it there with the shocks. There is a reason most coil over kits have reinforcement brackets that strengthen that area (or completely new frame supports).

I would agree with you on that, if you are loading the car up, or towing a heavy trailer, or pounding on the car with hard starts. For everyday driving, or cruise nights, with a few riders, I've never had any damage or twisting to the suspension, since the '70s. I just posted this, as it is the least expensive, and easiest, quickest fix to a common problem for 50 year old cars. On my '63s restoration, I am going with new S/S springs, as I'm upping it to a BB stroker, frame tied, and a Dana...

Longer rear leaf spring shackles + a longer rear shock (or rear shock extensions)?

I'd say air shocks, guess the Big Red Xx,s will
Come out now.

The Super Stock springs from Mopar gave a 2 inch higher ride height from stock. You can use Add-a-Leaf for an inexpensive boost to your factory springs. You will gain 1 to 2 inches in height for around $40. If you need more height than that, you should go with the ESPO springs.

ESPO can do +2" springs, seem to be much higher quality than super stock setup for about the same price. I already have air shocks cranking up the rear, I agree this is not an ideal solution, I would prefer to get the correct springs. SS or ESPO are about $400 out the door. Eaton was very expensive, I quit looking. Price would have been north of $600 with shipping.

You can have your springs rearcced.most do a very good job.l would just add a leaf or two.We have always found some ss springs laying around local.but they do wear out .make sure you have no binding when your done

I checked out the closest spring shop, around $300 to re-arch and add a leaf to get me where I want. It seems like best quality for the money is going to be ESPO.

What i need to figure out though is how high a stock 67 Satellite rides with stock springs (in good condition), so I can figure out if a 2" lift from stock is going to be enough.

My saggy springs lift the rear wheel arch (measured from top of arch to ground) to 19.5". Pumping up air shocks to 150psi or so gets me 22". I jacked the car up to determine what I want ideally, and its around 24-25" off the ground (basically only 3" of tire covered by the wheel arch with a 28").
