I posted this in memory of the 7 lost astronauts and to provide information on what happened. There's no need for you to go negative.

I don't think he was being negative or "cold" as you say. I think he meant it was something that was burned into memory and will never be forgotten. Why are people so quick to attack?

I remember that day as well. Was in HS & late to History class as I was in print shop listening to the news. When the teacher asked why I was late I told him that the Challenger had exploded.

He didn't think it was funny & I tried hard to keep a straight face to say I wasn't making it up. A few min's later the principal announced what had happened over the intercom.

It was a real shock to everyone.

Because people truly are addicted to outrage. Everyone wants to be offended and have a cause. It’s sickening. The world I grew up in no longer exists. Sad.

I was in kindergarten, I remember my teacher and the rest of the school faculty was quite upset. They let school out. Eventually I would find out why.

My school was a K-12 school, the high school Physics teacher Mr. Aldridge was one of the teachers who was considered to go on that shuttle with the astronauts. Supposedly he was the last man out and only got passed over because they wanted a female teacher.
He has been retired for 25 years but still lives at the edge of town.

33 years ago, wow, time fly's. Between Christmas and New Years that year I was fortunate enough to make my first trip to Florida, thanks to a girl I dated at the time and her Grand mother. Granny lived in Tampa, and Joan made a point of visiting every year. We drove down, so I had a great view of America.... Since we drove,we went down 75 and back 95 I believe. It was really important to me to at least visit the cape on the way back, grew up with the Mercury and Apollo programs as did all of us, in the 60's. Anyway's, spectacular day at Canaveral, and at that time, the Challenger was about half way to the launch pad, apparently it moves very slowly. I remember the day we lost the Chall and it's crew like it was yesterday. I was in between calls, the report came over the radio, I literally had to pull over, just to collect my thoughts.
A moment in time, not to be forgotten....

Exactly FrnkNsteen. Thank you. I apologize if I had unintentionally offended anyone.

Kind of off subject, but if you ever go to the NASA Space Center in Huntsville, AL almost all of the early era space rockets fuselage was produced by Chrysler. Maybe testing the effect on RUST in space??

I do a lot of work at chemical plants. A few years ago I was at a plant talking to a guy who had been there 30-40 years. He claims that they made a chemical that NASA would add to the fuel to prevent the fuel from damaging the seals. Supposedly there was a bad batch that was sitting in the warehouse for quite some time. The company received a large order from NASA, unable to fill the complete order in time, they added some from the bad batch. He believes this is what caused the seal on the shuttle to leak, causing the explosion. He said after the shuttle explosion, the remaining barrels were buried deep on the property and remain there today. I don’t know if any of this is true, but that’s the story I was told.

I remember the shock, disbelief and silence.
Agree. That day was a day of stunned silence wherever I went. Everyone seemed to have that same look on their
faces, no matter who they were - we had all as Americans suffered a big loss.
There's been very few days like that in my life. 9/11 was one of them, for example.
You never forget them. Ever.

RIP Challenger crew...
I will never forget...

burned/etched into my memory too

I watched it on TV,knew something was terribly
wrong as soon as it happened

O-Rings failed due to low external temp. They were tested no colder than 50 degrees, and NASA lit the candle at 31 degrees. Lots of statistical data out there if anyone cares to wade through it.
