Dinner at fine steak house $150. meal

Had dinner last night at Russell's steakhouse. Don't usually go to 1ST class restaurants as they are out of our budget, but special occasions call for great dinners. If your ever in the Buffalo area and want an EXCELLENT meal, stop in there. The food, service, and atmosphere are incredible. Steak you can cut with a fork. Dinner for two, $150 with the tip, but an incredible two hour meal.
Me, I'm just a blue collar guy, toss a burger at me and I'm fine, but occasionally you need to step over and see how the upper crust live.
What places do you guys have for great meals, if I'm ever in your area with to much cash in my pockets.

I like Perry's. A bit pricey but where else can you get a 40oz pork chop.

We had gift cards from our wedding to Ruth Chris. I got the Tomahawk steak, it was 130$. Never would I have spent my own money on that, cant remember the total it was like 285, we only spent like 30$ with a 75$ tip.
 
Charley's has a 64oz T bone IIRC.

Actually, before I spend that kind of $$, I'll cook it myself and do just as good of a job if not better.

I've only ever eaten at ONE place that did better than me.

I agree with RC, though Longhorn is pretty close to my own and is a good deal vs those high end places.



New Orleans style however is a bit more complex.

We have a place called Harry's that's above our norm, but sometimes a necessity.

Easy to spend a hundred on 2 people.

I agree, Harry's is AWESOME !! love their crawdads !
 
I ate at Ruth Chris in Atlanta once and was disappointed given what I paid for the meal. I'm like RC...perfectly happy with Longhorn when we eat out for steak. I usually get the 8 oz Renegade. There's a few other high end local joints around here and I've eaten at one of them once in 4 years.

Wife's Birthday only we'll hit the finest in town, other than that.. I grew up in a butcher shop so I need zero help on making a $10 steak taste like a $100 steak. Pass me that extra plate for the fixin's would yah! Last years boys ice fishing trip to my camp..

Go to Seven Sisters in Black Oak Casino, Tuolumne
I go once a year maybe, sometime less
it's a tad bit pricey $300+ for 4 meals
+ drinks for the other 3 of them, with tip, it was $400
2 of US usually always have NY steak & lobster,
(Me & my Aunt)
I can't remember what the others had, Sirloin or Fillet
but it's always great service & is really good...

usually I only do it, for my Aunt's Birthday
she deserves some special treatment

I really don't like going out to eat, that much
even on the road, it's not the price, as much as;
I like to cook...
I like my kitchen & I like to cook, I know it is done correct
I know where the stuff comes from & who's cooking it etc.
I can do better 99% of the time & for far less too
don't have to worry about driving afterwards either :poke:
& don't have to leave the comfort of home...

When I was on the road (racing or work)
I did truck stops a lot, especially for breakfasts
use to love biscuits & gravy or chicken fried steak, hasbrowns & eggs

also a lot of dependable places like
Sizzlers, Outback, Wafflehouse, or even Sonic, Dairy Queen, A&W, KFC
not fancy dancy places, but usually good food & for a reasonable price...
Especially with kids &/or crews in tow...

When I traveled with Lisa (RIP) she like a good steakhouse,
usually someplace like Cattleman's or Outback
surprisingly they were usually topnotch too...

Never really was into the hoity toidy places, dress up places
& I've been to plenty of them over the years...

I prefer the little obscure, hideaways or mom & pop, 'EAT' joints
a good ol' local steakhouse or seafood when it in the proper settings
on road trips now, you get the real flavor of the area, people & culture...

Does anyone remember the old Western Sizzlin' steakhouse chain? They were in the South; don't know if so in other parts of the country. When we were growing up, my parents would sometimes take us to the local one...25 miles away. That was a BIG TIME NIGHT OUT because we didn't eat out very much. Their steak dinners were always good and very affordable.
 
My 4 favorite dinners (not in order):
1) Steak, baked potato (butter and sour cream), garden salad
2) Fried or baked chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans
3) Fried catfish, cheese grits, sliced tomato
4) Fried chicken livers, turnip greens or collards, black-eyed peas

Sorry guys. Dinner's not far off and I'm hungry.
 
The big problem with most these high end steak joints is your paying for the meat they throw in the trash. If any place offers dry aged beef, they weigh it when it comes in from the supplier, stick it in a special purpose refrigerator for 3-6wks to dry age and loose 20% of its weight. Then when you order it they take that 32oz order look at the pre dry weight then cut another 6oz,s of moldy crust off of that before they cook it and serve you your now 18oz $100 dollar steak. Dont get me wrong its deliciously beefy but your paying for the storage of the meat more so than the meat. Dont even get me started on those friggin Tomahawk steaks. Charge me $100 for a 40oz non aged ribeye when 15 oz is bone that looks cool but I cant eat it.
 
That cowboy ribeye from longhorn is perfect if I’m not cooking it myself.

Yeah the tomahawk was ok but the wife and I are never going back. I'll eat at the lake joints by my house anyday and twice on Sunday before that joint again. For 50$ we get fish fry and old fashioneds(Wisconsin tradition) and a couple beers. Just had to burn up wedding gift cards.
 
The best I have ever been too is Berns in Tampa......They raise their own cattle......If you go it is an all night affair....We got their at 5pm and left around midnight.......

I ate at Berns once a few years ago & it was fantastic. I didn't pay, so it made it that much better!
 
Is that an anniversary cake? Go for the meal I say! Happy wife , happy life.
