Woke up to this today

Yeah, it’s getting chilly at -40 C/F. The good part is you can say “minus forty” and it means the same thing on both sides of the border.

Other good things about -40:
- no bugs
- no snakes
- crime rates go down
- car stays clean, salt only works to around -18C/0F
- sound travels incredibly far
- Ice Drinking! (Fishing, if successful)
- usually bright and sunny!

I will admit that at -40 the crank on my bike becomes very viscous, I actually have to gear down the oil is so thick. -30 it’s fine.

Now, firing up the no-choke 383- less fun. Here’s looking forward to spring!

I spent 7 years in Regina, it gets cold up there!!

I saw there was a shortage & outages of
natural gas supply in Wis.
they are asking people to set their thermostats
at 60* or below pref.

stay warm guys/gals, throw another log on the fire

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would take a photo, rub it in some :poke:
of the nice & warm sun shining, beautiful day & 60* weather
blue skies with a few puffy clouds, light winds crisp fresh air
the smell of oak, pines & cedars in the air

but you guys know that already

Hell next system 'we may get a ****-storm of snow & cold'
currently nights are cool, below freezing, but the days are extremely nice

I drove my RR yesterday :carrot: 55*f partially cloudy
& it's Jan 30th, sunny & warm, go figure :bananadance:

Winter here is really hit & miss here,
winters can be bad, they often are
probably 3 of 7 years (40% maybe) winters are bad
where I'm at...

BUT;
we don't get the crazy killer cold -40*f ****,
it's been in the low teens quite a few times, rare it goes neg. #'s
we do get snow, rain, ice, especially when it's clear & some wind,
especially more so up the mountain a few miles (20) 5000'+ elev.
but nothing like the NE, East Coast or rust belt Midwest
or like the Canucks get
'at seal level or very little elevations',
here it's mostly all in the higher elev.'s...

'thank god'

even if we have fucked up politicians, ruining the state :poke:
the weather is truly great, for 60% of all our winters,
shorts & tee-shirts could be worn & 100% of the rest of the seasons...

There's good & bad everywhere,
I like the warmth here, not our perceived politics...

Salt works down to about 20F but magnesium and calcium chloride works in much lower temps. And wreaks havoc on steel and concrete.

When you guys get cold temperatures like your having in many parts of the United States, I'm sure glad that i stayed in California, when i discharged out of the Air Force, back in 1980.
Couldn't tolerate that type of cold, in my old age.
Never wanted to live in the snow belt anymore, anyway, after growing up in CT.
If i want to see snow, i can make a drive up Interstate 80, or Highway 50, to Lake Tahoe, and see all the snow that i want to, anytime i want.
Sure is nice having temperatures in the 60's during the daytime, in late January, early February, around my area of the state.
Hate to rub it in.
Try and stay indoors, and keep warm.

Areas East and West of me lost power last night.
The linesmen went ti the rescue BUT.... the trucks gelled on them. Poor bastards.
Fortunately neighboring countues came to the rescue.

What I want to know is this: whis getting fired?
Either the head of maintenance needs fired for not having trucks prepared or the REC needs to cancel the contract with their fuel supplier. Both IMO.

I put straight number one and healthy doses of quality anti-gel in any diesel that I may need all winter. Ive learned the hard way. The last two days my mode of transportation has been a 2008 Case M-Turbo. Plugged in outside my house, she'll still start at -30.

Whether its The linesmen who got stranded or the paying customers who pipes broke. This was totally unacceptable. Damn do I hate incompetence.
Probably already had fuel in ground & didnt plan ahead with a load of kerosene to thin it out. You're right tho, poor planning!

OK, now I'm officially Grrrrrrrr AND Brrrrrrrr here.

Woke up to minus 22*, it's chilly around the edges.
-9* here ................My whole house (propane) generator just struggled to kick on for it's weekly exercise.

Some interesting things when it gets to -30. Car steering wheels can contract enough that horns start honking. If you live in a brick house you may hear popping noises from the brickwork contracting. If you take a cup of hot water and throw it, the water not the cup, up in the air it will instantly freeze and little or nothing will come back to the ground.

Right there with ya! Driving to and from work thru Pasadena with the A/C on.
I would normally call my Brother to announce the use of A/C in January while he is in New Hampshire, but the In-N-Out pics are good enough!!

Derwud, I send pictures of gas pumps with sub $2 dollar a gallon gas  Every place has a concession, that's for sure.

Or a monthly electric bill of $110... and thats with a space heater running in the bathroom.

I saw the thread title and was half expecting to see a picture of a skin rash, an erection or a really ugly woman from a "One Night Stand".
