1969 Dodge Charger 440 steady 120mph Cruising

Never been to Germany but just were will he be able to drive the thing at 120 for any real extended time? There are areas with speed limits to my understanding. So what is he really looking at 15 to 30 minutes at a time maybe? Or is that even pushing it?

We have variable speed limits too. So on some autobahns you can drive as fast as you want at night, while of course during the day you can only drive about 80mph.

It depends on the autobahn and traffic and time how fast you can go and for how long without slowing down.

But of course i wont be able to drive 120mph for hours without slowing down and accelerating again.

But 15 to 30 minutes is not really pushing it.
Im pretty sure you can do longer at the right time and autobahn. (but never watched time really)

thanks for all your replys.
Really appreciate it.

So in summary i have the following on my list after purchasing a 1969 Charger with 440/727.

- Engine Oil Cooler
- Transmission Oil Cooler
- Power steering Oil Cooler
- Performance Oil Pump
- Gear Ratio
- Bigger Oil Pan
- 120mph speed rated tiers

Would you add something?
Can you recommend me good parts?
What Gear Ratio would you finally choose? This car should also be driven in the city etc. so high speed at the autobahn is not all its meant for.

What about Water cooling?

of course i will go through the brakes and suspension later one too. As i think this is very important i will save up and will have it done by a pro as best as possible.

Mine's an original '69 Charger R/T, un-restored, un-rebuilt, and still in great shape ! 3.23 Sure Grip rear.

Can it go 120 mph ? yes, and then some. Been there/done that and the damn thing was STILL pulling hard !

Would I "cruise" long distances with it at those speeds ? Absolutely NOT ! Because "as delivered" I don't think these cars are safe up there long term.

Aside from tires/gearing, brakes(Discs), and some suspension tweaking, and while the R/T S15 Pkg is acceptably stable up there, things like wind-whistles in the Cab and lack of road feel if P/S equipped ? would be my concerns very soon after the aforementioned !

I have done it in the 72 GTX with 3:54 gears with no problem with stability issues or brakes. You will want a good set of speed rated tires. I have ridden in a few police cruisers in the 70s at 150 for miles with half the items some claim you need. I have also had the 68 Charger RT there for more than a few miles at a time with 4:10 gears. I am just not buying the instability thing.

Yeah to the "stability" i will go and see when i have my own charger bevor i decide what to do here.

But i am a bit affraid of taking a stock charger with 440/727 to 120mph for a longer period of time? im a bit afraid to ruin the engine which would result in high costs.
Do you think as long as i am monitoring oil pressure and temp i am good?

i know a lot of people have said they have done this with stock 440/727 cars but on the other hand the upgrades i mentioned in my last post arent really that expensive and can only improve the situation.
