Super shifter in a 64?

I'm sure the correct date. is printed in several places. We Were The Ramchargers would tell the correct date as well as mopar action and others. I am not certain of my above statement date but I myself think its pretty accurate.

The first 833's had the ball and trunnion output shaft. That should tell something.

64 was the first year.

Did not know the A833 trans existed until 66 and the old BW had a different shifter mount pad location. So how can this be?
Actually the 64-65 tail housing that used the trunion style drive shaft had the speedo gear location hole different that the 66 and later. The location of the shifter mount was the same.

Being not familiar with the 64 or 65 A833 will just take your word for it. I do know the linkages from the for Chrysler BW will not work. They are simply to short for the A833.

Look at Brewers web site.

I contacted the guys at brewers and they said the competition plus was the best thing I could buy for my application. Super shifter would need that big bracket and some floor cutting.

The shifter bracket that requires cutting was used on several types of Hurst shifters . In my 65 car I started with a super shifter that bolted in the stock location . I used the tall shifter stick that came up and curved back to the driver . Just a reminder I moved the motor back 2 inches in my car . I will include 2 pics the first one is the super shifter with the curved stick and the second one is a push down shifter , it is spring loaded to help get thru the shifter gate from 2nd gear to third . In order to engage reverse you go to neutral and push down on the shifter and pull over to engage reverse much like a vw shift pattern . The shifter bracket moves the shifter up and back and uses straight shifter rods . The first shifter had a 7 inch shifter throw from first to second gear while the other one is only 3 inches and moves the shifter next to the seat . A super shifter will work in your car , you just have to get the right stick for your app. Hope this helps . John

Thanks John. For the full length shifter (first pic) did it require any floor modification? Also, would you happen to know a part number?

The shifter that Fran shows on ebay is the same one I used in the beginning , In my note to you I had moved the motor and trans back in the car 2 inches . Dodge in 1966 moved the motor back 2 inches on all the b body cars . As you stated their are no listings for super shifters for your 64 or my 65 car . I have a Lakewood scatter shield in my 65 but they do not list one for it only for 66 up . On your 64 car did it come with a 4 speed trans ? The shifter I used bolted straight up to the trans . My 4 speed is out of a 67 and is a Hemi 18 spline trans .. My 65 is a AFX clone done my way . If I can help in anyway send me a pm and I will give you my phone number and we can talk .

Fran , the curved stick is the same one I used in the car . the bracket is the one that's on the pushdown shifter in the car now both units were great shifters but the one that I used on the pushdown shifter moves the shifter up and back to the driver , when you set in the seat and lay your hand it is on the shifter , works great .. Thanks John

Is there a number on the handle, do you know without pulling handle? The one I posted is 078.

Really appreciate the advice and offer to chat. I’ll be getting into this a little later in spring when the car is out of storage and may take you up on your offer. I’ll want to do a Lakewood scatter shield as well. I didn’t install the trans that’s in it now but I was told it’s from a 68 roadrunner (not the 18 spline but that would be nice). To my knowledge the car was a automatic with a consol but converted to a 4 speed. I’ve never run the numbers to verify this.

I made motor mount patterns from my 66 hemi K frame and fit them to my 65 K frame. Looks like its an 1.5" back. Pulling trans is a PITA, wish it was more forward. Crossram is only %/8th inch from firewall.

I have the same 7" Super Shifter handle.
The number on it is 7238

You said that you were going to use a Lakewood Scatter shield . Are you going to race your 64 car , if not here are a few things to think about . The one I have is for a 66 up mopar , On the Hemi I got a Center force fly wheel and dual friction clutch and pressure plate set that way I think the biggest size that would fit in the Lakewood unit . The lake wood is a very nice way to keep your feet and toes . You may have had one before but there are some drawbacks to using one . It has a engine plate that goes on first then fly wheel and clutch assm. then the flywheel can , if you have to work on or replace the disk or throwout bearing or pressure plate the can has to come out and there are a lot of bolts that hold it together . I had thought of cutting the bottom of the can out and welding in some plates so it could be removed and replaced without the hassle of taking it all apart . not as safe as it being solid but I am not building an all out drag car . By the way I think that the first shifter I put in the car was a Hurst Comp. Plus and not a super shifter . The only diff. is straight rods ver. bent ones . The reason for the bent stick was to get the shifter closer to the driver . P.S. Had a 67 cuda that I put a hemi in , guy I got it from had it in a 65 car , he gave the k member from the car and I cut the motor mounts off and welded them into the 67 cars k member . but of course this was years ago and I was 27 years old . Again hope this helps . I do have an extra super shifter handle if you need one , it's a 7 inch straight one > I do not have the other shifter anymore sold it . A few pics of my junk . Thanks John . P.S. the lines in black are were I might cut it out and figure a way to reattach when need to work on stuff inside the can .

One thing to add about blow shield, firewall where shield goes probably needs to be modified.
As FCM said about feetz and toez nice to keep them.

Yep , when motor was moved back I took out firewall hump and cut the trans tunnel back after installing the Hemi and trans with the current shifter I made a shifter box inside the car with a removeable lid to access the shifter for any kind of service to the shifter . A couple of pics firewall trans tunnel enlarged , shifter box with lid and last one the reason for box and shifter next to seat in car ..
