Anybody know the exact length of a 1969 manual steering shaft, or where this info could be found? Bought a floor shift manual steering column from a member here. Took it apart to restore and realized it has been pushed in and the plastic is missing.

Just line the holes back up, remove the plastic that will still be in the inner shafts two holes and refill with Plastic Welder / Bonder. Someone else asked this exact question last week and they used plastic plumbing "bolts". Not the way I would do it, but anything similar works.

Yeah, I saw your thread about the repair and have already picked up the plastic welder. The thing is that I banged the shaft apart quite a bit already and don't see where there are holes through the inner shaft. I read somewhere that there are not holes from the factory, but the 4 holes in the outer shaft were for injecting plastic between the inner and outer shafts. The plastic was injected to firm the 2 together as well as creating a film so moisture and rust wouldn't get between the 2 preventing collapsing if in an accident. With the specs for about every single part on these cars available somewhere, (except the measurement of the dash mounted reverse lamp lol)I can't believe I can't find the actual measurement.

I can guarantee you that the holes go though. My old man hit the wheel harder than he ever claimed as mine had the plastic sheared and the outer column "mesh" cracked that I had to weld back together. Picked the plastic off the outer shaft, lined up with the plastic remaining in the inner shaft holes, drilled that out and reinjected. I believe Justin stated a length of the shaft in the other thread..

I'll pull them apart farther to check for the holes this weekend. Justin stated a length for a power shaft, maybe he has a chart showing a manual one also?

Joel, I do and thanks for asking.....

Manual shaft end to end is 44 1/2

Thanks Justin, :luvplace:. 44 1/2 for manual & 41 1/2 for a power shaft then. Curious if you were able to find these measurement in print somewhere?

Nope.....These are measurements I took years ago and kept as a reference.....Every column I have restored. I used as a comparison......So hopefully 10 restored columns is adequate for your search. 4 of which were manual.....
