THE BLOCK, by Muscle Motors

I will post the final tune results of the dyno #s when its back on the dyno after the headers are built and with the new Quick Fuel 1050 carb, we ordered for it... magic # should be around 800 plus hp from what it dyno @ with a shitty set of headers on and the carb I had on it (Holley 2circuit 1050) .. tried a DragRace Quick Fuel 1050 on it as a swap and picked up 35hp without even tunning it..losing some hp as the motor was built for NOS... hang tight we are getting there
Awesome build, looking forward to the final results.

I ended up with one of those blocks I spoke about, early in this thread. My builder has that and an early mega-block of mine for builds. I've acquired most of the big pieces for a couple large displacement hemi engines. I want to do one 578 on pump-gas, and the other engine on race-gas. Both sets of heads are done, and one rotator-assembly is done. We've put them on hold, because I don't have a home for them. I don't want to take the WO apart again....it's fresh. I also want to sell the 66 hemi-car. Maybe if I get bored with the small-block S/S car, or blow it up.

I have had a Mopar engine builder and author, and another guy-a driver running a 440 A-body I saw at the track 9.5s at 150mph BOTH say I didn't need and they don't run a girdle on their stock block 440s or RB stroker in the 600 horsepower range, much less an aftermarket block in that horsepower range.
Regardless of their advice, if I use a factory RB block vs aftermarket, I am DEFINITELY running this cap and girdle system:
http://www.bcrproducts.com/caps_and_girdle_system.html
So my only question is factory block or aftermarket and that's going to come down to how much nitrous oxide power I may add to my close as I can get to 600 horsepower, and hopefully 650 ft lbs torque motor. 100-150 hp shot is what I'm thinking, as an "oh ****" button, and if I can keep it to that "rare" use, well.....
The other thought is how long will it take and how much will it cost for me to just make use of the power my future motor will have. In other words traction, best tune, time behind the wheel at the track...
It may take the rest of my years just to get the most out of a 6XX HP and torque motor, so adding a little nitrous and the corresponding question of stock block w/girdle vs aftermarket block may never come up.
I guess the last variable would be answering the question "Do I want an aluminum aftermarket block to save a couple of hundred pounds AND the capability to add 100-200 horsepower shot of nitrous?" If the weight savings is literally 200 pounds, and I "think" I want the capability of adding nitrous, maybe that combination can convince me to spend the extra money on an aluminum aftermarket block.

I see it as insurance. Seen too many well-built engines, come apart due to squeezing just a bit more power, out of a part "at potential". I think it's cheaper [at least in your mind] to not have that worry about wasting the initial money.

No question for me, if I had the coin , it would be an aftermarket alum. block for , for sure !

It's definitely cheaper to do it once, than twice. Especially when it'll be the piece you should have bought the first time.

What is causing the line thru my post?

I sure would like to see RB blocks for sale!

they are out there . You just have to pony up on the $
no matter what some say whether overpriced or not . if that is what you want , or just mutter and bandaid a stock block and hope it holds up when you push it .
Oh and lets simply get away from this whole bitching about other makes being cheaper .

I looked last night ad said 1 sold 9 left. Checked sold/completed listings and said sold. Don't know what to tell you, sold all 9? I posted because it said 9 available. Just went to Jegs website put one in cart no out of stock warning, didn't go to check out.

Just to be clear I saw 9 available at 8 to 9 pm last night. Put it on my watch list. This morning posted from watch list and may not have noticed out of stock notice. 9 blocks sold in 14 hours didn't think it would happen.
Edit: Jegs wedsite says 2/28 ship date.

Not sure of your point . Biomed guy wanted a wedge block , that was my responce . I recently bought a new unused World block , yes i coud have bought 2 or 3 sbc blocks for the same price .
You want it you buy it , dont complain about $
I am not complaining , here in Australia i am at about 1.4 x USA price after exchange . Then i have 10% tax on delivered cost plus sometimes a import duty and credit card fees .
I just try not to break too much
