Looking for transmission specialist near los angeles area that can rebuild (or diagnose) my torqueflite and treat me right!

wouldn't mind upgrading components of the transmission as well

need a 727 guru

major thanks in advance!

Got to be someone down there. Check with superbeeski, he has been out that way fir years.

Shop around! Find one, with at least one 'older guy' in it. Some of these newer trans shops, have never seen a 727, don't know nothing about 'em. Ask if they know!!

I've had the guys at A-1 (Buena Park) rebuild a couple of 727 for me over the years. They've done a basic overhaul as well as a slightly modified rebuild. The trans in my Charger right now was done by them. My dad recently had the A518 in his Ram rebuilt there too. It might be a little out of the way for you, but it's the only place I've had good experiences with.

Evan, there is a remac trans shop in San Dimas owned by Leo Glasbrenner, multi national event winner in stock/super stock. He does repair as well as race trans building. He repaired the trans in my girlfriend's dakota, works great.
I would, however, give him a call first, to see what he knows about push button torqflite with ball and trunion, and parts availability. Ask for Leo, he's on Facebook too.

You have received great advice...ensure guys have experience with these older trannys. Heard many bad stories of work done by shops that don't know them hoping to save a buck..

There is a shop in Hawaiian Gardens called Cresomatic. They have done work for my family in the past and did a good job. Prices were very good. It's been a few years however so I can't speak about their current work as things sometimes change.

Very little difference between a push button and later 727. Should be easy to find someone there.

just out of curiosity do you remember how much you ended up paying them for the rebuilds?

The most recent rebuild was around $1100. It included a torque converter, improved servo, kevlar band, some kind of hi-perf clutches (don't remember specific brand/type), and B&M shift kit. I also had the car towed down there and they removed and reinstalled the trans for me.

Head east to Lancaster, home of Pro Trans. They do tf's only. Mopar dudes to boot. They race what they sell.

Overbys Transmission in LaHabra - muscle car fanatics. They’re not cheap - but good.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I think I've decided on a shop.. will tow it in the next day or two and see what they say.

TF's are SO easy to rebuild. Grab a book and the video on how to do it. The soft parts/kits are inexpensive and a 727 requires little in build up stuff from factory parts unless you are going trans-brake territory or slinging big power.

I kinda was thinking of going that route sinse I tend to want to do everthing myself. But given that I've never done it before Im worried I'd have some issue arise with me making a mistake and it not working right. Then I'd have to pull it again and start over. I also just don't have a lot of room or time to pull the trans and have the car sitting while I learn...

Also not sure how I would go about balancing the converter and stuff where I need special tools and equipment

You can air test most of the issue areas while it's not completely together. No special tools required that I can recall. Snap ring pliers. Don't even need a slide hammer to get the pump out like most people do.

Balancing a converter??? On a BB car... get an appropriate flexplate if it's externally balanced

I could be wrong but isn't the early small block 727 internally balanced
