Hey all,

I need to get an estimated value of a D 440 HP block date coded 1-17-68. It is complete except for the carburetor. One of the motor mount tangs on the passengers side is damaged, but was told this is the Non-Torque side and it could be re-welded and be fine. The machine work has been completed but needs assembly. I am looking to purchase it and was just wanting to make sure I get a good deal on it. I will absolutely have to have it inspected and magnafluxed before I purchase it.

Thanks in advance.

**Adding a picture of the block to show the broken tang.

What's the plan? Going gonzo or staying stock-ish?

Stock-ish...very little modification on the motor. Mild cam upgrade maybe

A compromised engine block like that I wouldn't give more than 250 bucks (about what you'd get for salvage) and even then you've got a busted casting... I've found std. bore 440 blocks on e-bay that are in great shape for under 700 bucks... unless your looking for a specific date coded block for your Charger that's what I would do. With that being said, unless your going to use a plate mount I would look elsewhere... just sayin

If heads are done and good crank and rods done new pistons? I would say minimum $1500.00

Heads are done, Crank is done. He said all machine work is done. But like I said, I will have it checked by a machine shop before buying. Complete motor minus the carb.

And it has everything except the carb? As in has a cam, water pump, oil pump etc...

That's what he said. Of course I wouldn't reuse cam, waterpump, oilpump.

Well I would be all over that, even if you’re not going to use it you can sell it and recoup some of your money. Start negotiations at $1500 go from there. The machine work alone is worth $1000

My thought is that my 68 Charger R/T will be worth so much more with a Year/Version correct engine in it than the RV 440 I have for it now. This is a January 1968 block and my car was a July 68 build

Personally, if it isn't original.....I think a block, is a block. But I'm not into that OEM stuff.

Grab the VIN if you can. I'm still looking for the original motor out of my 68 GTX and it was from Oklahoma. :praying:

was just looking at your other thread im assuming?
thats the same motor?
if so,i see a lot of surface rust on the block,
which means youll have to go thru the entire motor again anyways.
i also see low comp pistons in a hp block....waste of money and time there.
did you look at the Crank to see if its a cast or forged?

then theres the broken ear, which isnt really bad, but, how did it get broken one wonders.

sooo,at best you are buying a long block heads and intake,
all of which will have to be checked and cleaned it seems?
imo,id look for a better motor or project motor for That kind of money.
the only plus i see to that motor is the date code and stamp.
