The instructions that came with the new gasket pan says to put some RTV around the vacuum ports on the block side. I know it is required on the front and back of the block on the pan. But the original had no type of RTV on the vacuum ports. Any thoughts on this ? BTW it's a 72 RR GTX 440 non AC 4 speed.
Thanks , Don

???? vacuum ports on a 440's head/intake mating surface? What are those?

I have put a dab of RTV around the heat cross-over tubes before (long time ago), but I normally only put RTV at the corners like you mentioned.

Also I forgot to ask. The new gasket set from NAPA came with 4 gaskets. Am I supposed to sandwich the new pan with these ? Original only had gaskets on the exhaust manifold not on the block.

I have always used Hi-tack on both sides of the pan gasket at the intake (vacuum) ports. If you have the clearance, or have excessive clearance, then you can Hi-tack or glue the paper gaskets to the pan. Also, you can block off the heat crossover passages for a performance advantage, at this time.

What can I use to block off the heat crossover passages ?

Here's a 2-for-1 answer(s)
1. You normally don't use the 4 paper gaskets at all, just the metal valley pan. I've never been able to get the paper gaskets to fit on my motors anyway.
2. To block off the exhaust heat cross over, there a two ways I know. A) buy a valley pan gasket that does not have that hole or B) Custom-cut a small piece of sheet metal, no thicker than the intake valley pan gasket, & silicone it over the hole. There are some smart guys on here that probably know a better way. Personally, I leave my heat cross-over open so my choke will work.

They sell a valley pan with no cutouts which blocks off the heat passages.
A good idea for Florida.
But if you already have a new one with cutouts, you could cut up the old one.
Just make a piece about an 1" larger, cut and fold the corners and jam it in the hole.
Maybe leave a tab so you can grab and pull it out in the future.
Even if it blocks 95% of the heat that should work.
