I've heard about this stash for a long time, apparently what's left of it is up for sale as a lot. Some good trim (grille surround!) but also some used parts.

Used to get employee cost from dealer parts counter when I was rounding up my own pile. One day told me a story about a guy that came in a few years earlier and bought the entire trim set for his 77 plus a bunch of other stuff. That would have been in the early 90s and I did pretty good finding a couple cars worth on dealer shelves thru the locator system. Took his car in to get it repaired, repainted and retrimmed and found out there was no car under the paint and trim. Rusty firewall, k-frame, qtrs - every where they rust, this one was gone. Tracked him down, he wanted like $1000 or more for the pile.

I passed, somebody else may have scooped it up, for a while was owned by Wendel with the killer 77 drop top. Didn't see the stash but was always distracted. Think he bought if for the door panels. Both his cars sold near where this stash is and oddly enough, it has convertible parts. Try to save me the back window surround chrome.

p.s. I'm close and I've got room for the whole pile. hmmmm.

in the early 90's Chrysler was doing a "sell down" on late 70's and early 80's parts.

the example I got was an NOS in the box dash pad for a Mirada/Cordoba J body- list at $600, for $150

It's business as usual in the OEM parts market. Dealer network is required by law to provide service parts for x number of years past last date sold. If they move enough of them, they'll be more on the shelves when production is cut off. About 10-15 yrs later, there's a lot of stuff on dealer shelves to be had cheap. Right now it might be 94 up Ram stuff and maybe Sebring parts?

Current dealer parts room technology is back end hosted, private web. Use employee log on to net, see your room, local depots, every body else's room. Back in 94, which was a couple years late, the technology was still dial up bulletin board from the mid 80s. Primitive text only interface, reg'd listing dealers to manually upload list of part numbers.

I got the phone number and a log in. Wrote myself some code that would look through the database I created to make a list of numbers to search through. If it got any hits, it would update the database and then I could run canned reports that showed me where the stuff was. Bought enough to do 2 full cars. Should have bought a ton more.

I was trying to get parts for a 2008 Cadillac not to long ago, and the parts guy at the dealer told me that the manufacturer (GM) is only required to provide parts for up to five years now!
