This is a real deal #'s matching XS R/T Charger project I started 12 years ago....
After dealing with a couple of moves and life in general getting in the way I've got things moving in the right direction now. Having to overcome a mess the restoration shop left me with to which I flat out refuse to become another statistic of the many that just had to give up and walk away from their project.
Had to strip all the body work that was done and start from scratch. Had entirely too much mud on the car for my taste. It now has minimal filler, just enough to work out the wiggles and the waggles. I layed down some DP 90 to cover and seal the new body work. 3 coats of high build primer and another round of blocking. Everything looks good enough for sealer and move on to laying the base coat. Going with the factory SS1 Sun Fire Yellow, base coat clear coat. More elbow grease, blood, sweat and beers required....

Did not know the 68 R/T had the woodgrain dash....thought that started in 69 with the SE option.

It was in the car when I bought it 30 years ago. I'm the third owner so maybe somewhere up river it was changed before I got it. Good question for our B body brethren...

Awesome looking build. What's the history of the car and how you come to be the new owner?

Hey thanks.
Car came from Ohio originally. The original owner put the car up for auction with Russo and Steele and anther guy from Ohio bought it. Shortly thereafter he moved to Texas. Turned out that the car was too much for the guy and he just parked it, so it sat for years. I was able to buy the car after some vandals broke out the rear glass and drivers side window. I towed it home changed the oil, drained the cat piss gas that was in the tank, did a tune up on it and was my daily driver for years. After I sold my house in San Diego I thought it would be nice if I could sink some money into it and restore it to its former glory...thought it would be a good investment. I have to admit that there are times I wish I never touched it :BangHead: but its hard to put toothpaste back into the tube if you know what I mean. I'm glad that I did though, the car had some cancer that would eventually need to be addressed anyways so here we are.
Thanks for looking...

Finally finished up the taillights last night. Been quite a few years since these were fully assembled. More stuff to put on the "finished pile"

Great job, looks amazing along with the engine!

Great project! Looks great! I'm looking forward to watch your progress, especially a yellow 68 charger.

Thanks showard. From the looks of your avatar we appear to share sisters. Have you finished it?

What kind of paint did you use to touch them up with
The paint is Matte Gloss Hot Rod Black single stage Urethane. Got it from The CoatingStore.com. Same paint I'm using for the tail panel black out as well. Did a bead blast on the surfaces then applied some DP 90 (epoxy) before the base coat. It looks close to the original paint...but opinions very. The Urethane sprays out nice with a HVPL setup w/35 psi at the gun. I use a full face respirator when spraying this paint...wicked stuff

New bearings, wiring, crush capsules lipstick and BOOM a new 50 yr old steering column ready to bolt back in..
Walnut wheel doesn't hurt either.

Finished up some of the unglamorous part of this build. Seam sealing is done! On to bigger and better things.

High build on.jpg
Had a chance this weekend to spray some high build primer on the quarter panels to address some scratches and a minor wiggle. Another round of blocking then on to...something else
