Frame connectors how did you do it

Trying to see how many different ways frame connectors were installed bolted in welded
 
Dennis I take it the fit was good. Or did you have to do alot of trimming to get them to fit correctly
 
Paid a welder. Said it was easy. Getting the undercoating off was the challenge. He did it in summer and ended up in the emergency room with the rash from hell. Asbestos. He was not properly dressed. I remember the first drive on a washboard street. Solid. They look factory to the untrained eye.
 
Mine are bolted on - figured if I wanted or needed to I could always weld them later. Got them from Summit.
 
Welded in is the way to go. Bolted can still flex.
I made mine, or more accurately, I modified 3x3" tubing. I cut it to fit the floor, wrapped it around the rear frame rails.
I also made my own torque boxes and welded it all in with the car on jackstands to maintain body weight on the tires. I primed and painted it all to look as clean as I could make it.

Nice work kerndog. Dennis sorry to here about the welder. But we all need to pay attention to that. When working on these cars protect yourself.
 
Getxed do you feel the difference with the bolt in ones and what tubing size is the summit. I am guessing a 2x2 tube.
 
Are you guys using a seam sealer after it being welded in or grind it down for the finish.
 
I have done two Belvederes with welded in 2X2 tubing partially welded to floor (slightly protruding in rear foot well areas.

Made my own using 2"x 3" .120 wall rectangular tubing which I welded in place. Total cost was under $20. Unbelievable difference in chassis stiffness.

I seam sealed, primed and painted. I probably should have drilled a few holes in there just to let any water escape. I may go back and do that.

ITs hard for me to say if there’s a difference becuase I hadn’t driven the car in years before putting them in. They were an add on during my restoration project. I just know the car feels solid and handles well.
