Running HOT

If you have another loose distributor you could just plug that in and spin the shaft with your fingers.
This would help rule out the reluctor and pickup inside the distributor really easily.
It's that or the ECM.

I could try that I still have the original one. But I am not getting spark from the coil until it cools down. But at this point I'm willing to try almost anything. Anyone want to make a trip down to SWFL it was 79* here today. JK

Is the original for electronic ignition? 72 was still points

Wow that was the first ever offered I believe

I had a new 71 340 Duster that had points and I believe 72 they started with the Electronic Ignition.

I should have titled this thread WONT RESTART WHEN HOT. OK finally received the new Electronic Ignition module installed it ran the car around the neighborhood for 45 mins. Got home shut it down. Waited 10 mins. and still will not fire back up. Put the original Ignition Module, it was cold from sitting on the shelf and same thing no start until it cools down. So the module getting hot is not the problem I'm having. In post # 7 it shows my temps. It's not running to hot. I also filled it with the E90 REC. Fuel which does not have ethanol. HELP PLEASE.

Are you sure you're getting 12 volts at the coil in the key start position? If not that's your weak spark problem. Put voltmeter on positive coil side and have another person crank motor to see if your getting more voltage at start, or when hot just run 12volts from battery to coil to see if it fires up. Also what's condition of Carb and what is it?

Yes 12v at coil. Brand new edelbrock carb. installed this week . same problem with the original holley carb. Just went out to move it back in the garage and fired up 1st crank. Runs great but when I shut it down it wont re fire.

Do you have 12volts at the starter relay when hot?

Is your advance sticking in the distibutor?
Warm it up & get it so it wont restart & pop the cap. Jiggle your advance & put the cap back on & see if it starts...
Simple to try... These issues are driving you nuts I'll bet. Stick with it, you'll get it straight.

It's a brand new distributor. I know that doesn't mean anything with all the Chinese crap being sold. So I will give that a shot. Thanks.

I don't know if you've checked this, but classic signs of it. The coil, and if so, pretty hard to test. It's happened to me.
Windings inside the coil, can break. Coil is cold, the broken winding is touching, completing the circuit...once hot, windings expand, opens (breaks), then the circuit is open.
Just saying, it's possible. Maybe try another coil.

I have another coil and swapped it out a couple of times. Same results.

And we have checked the starter relay?

If I understand correctly, the new coil has no spark after getting hot, and the other coil is the original one from the car that sat for years, and had very little and intermittent and weak spark, all within a few minutes, it could be two bad coils.
Stuff happens.

Another 'long shot' could be in the wiring, to the coil. What I call a floating short...wire is broke, inside the insulation, touches while cool, expands and separates, once hot.
But, me, I'd try a totally different coil, first.
