I am looking for correct information and history on the old original inline shifters both Hurst and Mr Gasket. In my searches I have found that most people seem to lump them all together or at least get the actual names mixed up between Ramrod, V-Gate and Vertigate. I've had two Hurst inline shifter, one with a round reverse lever and one with a flat reverse lever. Both had the large L shaped mounting bracket. The easiest to identify is the Mr Gasket version (V-gate, Vertigate???). The Hurst inline shifters appears to have an external lever stop bracket. Is there a difference between the A833 mounting brackets? Also, in that time period, when was the Hurst Super Shifter introduced? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Terry

Like this bad boy ram rod ! After riding in a buddies car with one I just had to have one of my own. Searched and found one with a B- body bracket and rods. Then sold the car, now it's garage art and a conversation piece ! Got an old school ivory T handle on it too, apparently they stopped making those in '69 ? At least that's what I remember reading. ... I think

I remember those shifters. They are COMPLETELY BAD-***! It was many years ago....but I think a buddy of mine had one of those. You cannot "downshift" with those shifters, correct?

Sure you can. Straight up to 3rd. from 4th. Pull back to neutral then lift the t handle and pull back again to second. Then straight up with the t handle pulled to first. Not something you want to do unless you have to.

I have one like that right now. It also has the flat reverse handle but the first one I had came with a round handle. I'd like to know the difference.

Wasn't the round reverse lever the Mr gasket vertigate one ?

Thanks. The original Mr. Gasket is the easiest to recognize for me. I was wondering what actual name it was marketed under, V-Gate or Vertigate?
I had a Ramrod that looked exactly like your picture. The one I have now is the same except for the reverse lever is flat like the picture in Post #3 by 65-440. I thought that Hurst also had another inline shifter back in the day and it was called a (something-Gate???) not a Ramrod.

Thanks again mmissle. I was able to contact Scott Brokaw. I received the following reply.

HURST RAM ROD (RAM 4 was the first inline shifter)

MR. Gasket Vertical Gate (also called V Gate) 1st generation was next to come to market, totally different shifter

HURST V Gate 2, (Vertical Gate) was next as an upgraded copy of the original Mr Gasket, adding a shift stop bolt plate, reverse lockout bias spring with plate

Then as HURST was purchased by Mr. Gasket in the 1980's they upgraded the Mr gasket Vertical Gate to the above HURST V Gate 2 specs and offered BOTH the MR Gasket and the HURST

versions for awhile, dropped the Mr Gasket Version along the years , and then discontinued the HURST version in 2008- (last actual production was in 2008), took till about 2013 to sell off the inventory-

This is strictly based on my knowledge of working with HURST for 41 years-

No, written history as such by HURST nor Mr. Gasket

The A833 used a L shaped welded steel mount for the RAM Rod, Super Shifter and Super Shifter 3.....the A833 used a CAST Aluminum mount for the V Gates-
