I'm torn on which headers to buy for a '68 Coronet 318 - ground clearance/driveability, cost, ease of installation, and durability are the main factors in my deciding which brand and model to buy. You guys got any experience or feedback on any of these? Pros, Cons? Please choose the best overall in your opinion and comment if you got time. Thanks, Adam
 
For ground clearance and good for, you have 3 choices. Not in any particular order;

Doug’s @ 1-5/8
TTI - @ 1-5/8 - 1-3/4
Hooker Super Comps @ 1-3/4

I have used the Hooker Super Comps and there fit has been excellent. If anybody chimes in on “Lack or torque”, I’ll call true but bull **** and toss the card down real quick. Been there done that would do it again in a heart beat quick again. And yes it was on a 318 as well. You’ll never feel the missing torque and you will only see a minor difference at the strip.

Oh, they were also the easiest to install IMO of the three.
No front end linkage to disassemble and go through the header tubes. Great ground clearance.
 
I've installed at least 20 sets of TTI's over the years. The fit is right on.I always replace the engine mounts and tranny mount at the same time.
Right now I'm building a budget beater 318 B body and went with the cheepie Jegs headers same as the Summit. Passenger side easy fit. Driver side steering goes thru the pipes,and the steering drag link rubs when turning.Will have to do a bit of bending for clearance.The easiest small block headers I've ever installed were the TTI shorty's.They were on a A body.
Biggest factor is what you budget is.
 
TTI gets my vote, on both my cars. 1 big block And 1 small block. No ground clearance or suspension interference at all. They are pricey though. I had Doug's on my 65 coronet, I was happy with those also. I would consider shortys, I would think the install would be much easier ...
 
After some research (and eliminating TTI just because of the price), I went with Dougs. The fit was pretty much dead on. I have a starter for an 89 Dakota pickup because it's a bit smaller, a Napa Gold oil filter, and 1.03" torsion bars, and the headers slid right into place. I did have to crease the pipe under the oil filter juuuust slightly. They were a good price through Summit Racing, a great fit, and I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

It's a 340, but as you know, the block is the same.

Thanks Hilljack68! I appreciate your input. What car did you put the headers on, a Coronet?
 
I went with 235/60/15 all around. She was born with 14 inchers, but I wanted to go a bit bigger. I can't say how they perform just yet; she's been under construction since I bought the tires. A couple of test runs to try out her new suspension, and then later to bring her home from the alignment shop. But I run Coopers on my daily driver, and I like them. -Jack
 
What area of PA are you from, Adam? I grew up in the Punxsutawney/DuBois area.
