Hi
I'm looking to replace my stock SG in my Dana due to it slipping at track. The car is a heavy 79 Magnum 4200lbs and that Dana came out of a 71 B Body and has 3:54 gears. The engine is a 451 that makes 613hp and 625TQ for now but looking into a bigger engine. Car went 11:68 @ 118 mph on MT street SS. With that said i'm very confused on the types of SG, Which is the strongest/best one for higher HP/TQ applications. I am also looking @ 4:10 gears so which manufacturer will hold up great for street and track. Not sure I left anything out but that's where I'm at. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

A Detroit True Trac is helical gears, nothing to wear out. Or go spool if not street driven.

Now if the price of the true Trac scares ya, go with a new clutch pack in your Dana.

Give Cass aka Dr. Diff a call. He will be able to get you set up with what's best for you.

go with a Detroit Locker ,,,, they hold up under 800 HP Nascar use and are street friendly and the new style soft locker is not noisy like the old design-- and as far as a gear brand go US Gear --- made in the USA available from Strange Engineering , Summit etc. really excellent gears and set up easily.
stay away from off shore brands like Hoosier , Nitro , house brands

a True Trac at your power level will not last.

Spoke with Cass at Dr Diff and Strange Engineering and both told me to get the Strange S60 Hellical unit, A buddy of mine told be about Yukon Grizzly Locker which is noisy around turns similar to those old Moroso Brute strength units so I have to decide between the 2, Anyone use the Yukon Grizzly locker? any input? I'll also do some research.

Not trying to offend anyone but I'd be more inclined to follow the recommendations of Cass and Strange Gear more than a buddy:)

That's a very good point you make and I appreciate the input very much. After all we all want the best for our cars. I just want to pick the right part from the get go and not do it again. I know with the extra weight i'm carrying and the power levels I'm working with it's not easy on the drivetrain

Just an FYI, my roadrunner has the original unrebuilt 68 trac loc out of a 68 Charger. It’s pulled 1.50 60fts and has ran in the 10s at 4000# in my roadrunner

Hey Folks, I was wondering on the 71 B-Body Dana 60 are the axles 23 or 35 spline. The car is in storage and rather inconvenient to get to right now so if someone knows it would be appreciated. I know the earlier had 23 spline.
Thanks

Question is the original Dana car? Might be worth saving the if its not a wreck. Might something special if its got a Dana. I'm not up on 71 b bodies but worth a thought.

I guess it is probably special to someone with a 71 B-Boday that has a Dana car .My car is a 79 Magnum, I got the Dana 30 years ago from a 71 440-6 GTX that was parted out. It was original to that car, and since it was a direct bolt on after getting rid of the ISO stuff I had it in my car ever since. I heard there was a changeover from 23 to 35 splines sometime between 70 and 71 but wasn't sure. 68 Hemi GTS replied with 35
