Saw this 69 Daytona rotting away in the snow near Lancaster Ontario Canada. Went up to the car and owner said to get away. I spoke to someone that knows about this car and he said it was running many years ago when parked. The owner said one day he'll fix it. We all heard that before and when asked if it was for sale he must have watched Barrett Jackson because he thinks those are the prices for his car. It's sad to see such Mopar history and a legend rotting away and it will get to a point where it will be total junk.
On another note I saw this car last year @ a show near Montreal and I just shook my head. It looked like Kermit

The frog machine is an oddball, but at least it is well cared for. I’d shake the guys hand and say thanks! Lots more interesting than a stock one. I like that the Daytona was available in many paint colors, and colored interiors.

So instead of ringing the door bell you went to the car first? I'd tell you to get away as well... but you had the perfect opportunity to ask him directly if it was for sale.. not hearsay from down the street. What is "not cheap", considering rotted out... nothing but the VIN tag saveable Birds are fetching just South of $100K US lately. "Not cheap" might be a great deal for a Daytona, especially in Canadian Pesos. Might need to hook my trailer on and go for an Easterly drive.. lol

I'd rather see 50 kermit's than 1 left to the elements.

Not sure but I heard it wasn't cheap
"Not cheap" is very subjective....the way some people bitch about paying $10 for postage makes me wonder if they actually understand the value of money at all.
IMHO if it's anywhere near to or under US$100K as is, where is, it's worth scrambling over hot coals to buy immediately.

We do understand the value of $10, that’s why we bitch. Problem is we find very little value in the service doing the delivery.:poke:

There’s a 70 Charger near me dressed up like a General Lee. Car has been sitting outside for years. Typically it’s around the side of the house in front of a garage. Makes me wonder what’s in the garage since this sits out. This year they moved the car to the front yard right in front of the house and decorated it with Christmas lights. I always wonder how many people stop and try to buy it. Moving it to the front yard tells me they clearly want the attention. House is on a very busy road.

There’s also a Superbird in the Camp Hill, PA area that’s been sitting out for years too. That owner wants $130k.

Couldn't agree more. Personally,... I'm amazed at the price of shipping (meaning I don't know how they do it). The thought that I can put something in one of the USPS small boxes and send it across the country for $10 or less?? I can't even drive to the closest city for that in gas alone! :) And the thought that I can pay a little more and have it delivered pretty much anywhere in the country the next day??? Pretty impressive!

Now what I don't like.... I was at our local post office shipping out a couple packages to a friend. As I was arranging to have them shipped, I was treated with watching the other workers sorting packages by tossing them from across the room into various tubs. I looked at the guy helping me and asked if that's their typical way of treating our packages and asked if I need to insure them. Fortunately, they made it to their destination with no damage!!

it's a nice lawn ornament, but I personally wouldn't want the attention or a bunch of random people continuously at my house or at my door. if they want to let it return back to the earth then whatever. it's another case of look what I have and no you can't afford it.

so would i...its a travesty when people take the wild paint jobs and return them to " stock "
now,its just another winged bird,in the same color as the rest of them.....

edit: btw to the Op.....why?
why would you walk up to the guys car and not do the doorbell or knock first?
you are lucky all he did was throw you out,and not shoot you first.

many years ago, down in Nc,me and my friend Pat were crusing for cars out in the country.
down a tiny dead end road we spotted a yard full of mustangs,
race cars drag cars and reg cars.
basically a ford stang Heaven.

Pat was crazy about stangs,so we swooped right down the driveway,
and he jumped out and started looking at the cars/almost a fatal mistake.
i stood there for a second,taking it all in,turned,
went to walk up the stairs to knock on the guys door,
got about 3 steps up door opens guy comes out with a colt 45 pistol a hogleg.

i start to say hello and he says get the **** off my property now!
i started apologizing as Pat made a beeline for the car.
he looks at me doesnt say **** points the gun skyward and Blammo!
i said Git!
we got..and fast.

Always, always knock on the door...and if noones home,
Best to leave a note,
because you Never know if the neighbors or security will say something later to the owners.
theres Nothing worse than your neighbors saying to you,
hey Someone?? was at your house today, but no,i dont know who they were.

Pays to play nice. You never know what may happen.

From the highway I saw a car in a yard on a vacation trip, I pulled in and went to the door. The wife opened the door and I asked about the car. She let me in to see the man, he said “how much you give me for it?” I said I haven’t looked at it yet, I came to the door first.

I went out and checked it out and looked it over, he says $3500, which was a very fair price for the car. I bought it and asked why nobody else bought it, “OH, I was telling them $5500.” I asked why did you drop the price? He said, “I like you because you are respectful” turns out he was given the car on his 16th B-day in 1967.

This was in 2004, the car is a 67 440 GTX, was weathered and interior toasted. But straight and solid. I have GTX parts so it was a pretty good car for me.

You are usually, but not always dealing with older people when trying to buy old cars. We were brought up to be respectful of the other persons property. In my case, if I find someone's on my property crawling all over my car, I won't be respectful either, they will be looking at the wrong end of a 357. I respect you too, for that decision. I don't know about a 2K discount, but it would help considerably.

This is a man that looked like in his 70's and like I said only walked up near the car I didn't even touch it or stay there long, I didn't get a chance to look further, I just conformed with the man's request to get out. I respect others property and me being almost 60 certainly was brought up in that manner. I never ever want to be confrontational. I now seem afraid to go there and ring the bell and inquire about the car I say "Why bother" I don't want to put myself in harms way because truth to be said I'm not interested in buying the car anyways. I just wanted to share that finding with our community here that are interested in these types of cars. Thank you.

I understand that he was offended by you just looking at the car. If you want to go back and inquire, start with the doorbell and when answered start with an apology like I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot the other day but if you don't mind I would like to ask you about your car. And by all means tell him your name and a little about why you are interested. I'm sure he is probably a sensible person and not asking about a sale until you are on a good footing with him will help. He will let you know if he will talk. Most people welcome inquires and relating stories if they aren't on the defensive. I'm 72 and with multiple Mopars, I sometimes feel a little threatened or imposed upon when people ride by slam on brakes and jump out and immediately start towards a car. I'm not saying you did that but apparently he didn't like your approach whatever it was. I like that your trying to help out the community. Best of luck if you decide to return. I have stopped by places as many as 3 or 4 times asking questions before I ever ask if it's for sale or could be bought. I'm sure I'm not preaching to the choir, just be cool it will work out.

Ive never understood, why not spend a few thousand to build a garage for this car thats worth 100k+?
Even if its 4 walls and a roof

Just to update this... I have talked to the owner at length (VERY friendly man!), the car is NOT for sale and he's fully aware of proper value, but if it ever is for sale he knows whom to call! He has owned it for 27 years and lost his indoor storage before getting his garage built (pad is already there), as his wife took ill for 2 years negating progress. Original Orange coloured Daytona with a repaint, 440-4 car. Plan is to restore as Father / Son project with a son keenly interested and a grandson next in line.

SE, automatic, with power windows to boot!

Just the fact that it’s parked out front shows that he wants people asking about it.
Actually not, he wasn't too happy when I showed him the picture on the internet. It also only took me a total of 14 hours to obtain his phone number after asking my old highschool buddies in the Valley if they knew about this car. Car is outside as a matter of circumstance, not as an attraction. His garage was supposed to be done before he lost indoor storage and then his wife took ill.
