Is it just me or is everyone else in the world tired of hearing the term barn find. My car for example. It sat in my grandmothers garage for 50 years. My dad parked it there when i was born a convertible in Chicago with a baby thing (62 Fury). Then his brothers took it apart and left it in parts. I waited many years until it was offered to me. But its not a barn find. I feel like barn find is a headline attention grabber but way over used by either. 1. someone trying to sell their old car or 2. someone writing a story for the internet.

usually barn finds are cars in better condition than yard finds.
Way better condition,imo.
that being said,
i have also seen some great cars that were ruined completely by bird poop Inside barns.

But its not a barn find.

Probably to you it isn't because you knew it was there.

Now, If I stumbled across something like that in a barn or garage that I didn't know was there, I may refer to it as a barn find.

A friend and I found a 70 RR 440-6 4-speed in northern Alabama. When the car was completed my friend had a poster made of the find. He headed it as Barn Find. It seemed appropriate. The previous owner saw it at a show and bitched at him all day. He said it was a shed not a barn. I say maybe, maybe not. You decide.

My definition of a barn find is a property that the barn sits on does not have a owner and items have been sitting in the barn with no ownership .

Driving down a road looking into occupied property where a barn sits with cars inside . Does not really mean a barn find item. Chances are they want those out of site out of mind .

Most folks are hoarders waiting for that special day to unload there goods.

Seen that way to often.

When I hear barn find I think of a 68 RR I bought that actually was a barn find, damn thing had Chicken **** all over and through it!! I hit the car wash on the way home but never could get rid of that stench, I scrapped it.

Yeah barn find, Rare, one of, numbers matching, only so many built, blah blah blah......when I hear that or someone is talking and using those terms I just space out.....Its all bs...I just say I have a few old cars... Ive also HAD it with acronyms......Half the time I spend more time looking up what they are referring to then I needed to....

I guess it can mean anything to anyone. To me it is a car in a building other than a attached garage that has sat undisturbed for years. It looks like the RR in the picture would be one to me. Some people make to much out of a definition and should lighten up. It looks great I would love to have it no matter where it came from.

In these parts there are very few barns. So they are garage finds!I have no luck finding gold, but found junk that went to the scrap yard!

I like barn finds. I look for them all the time. In fact, I love barn finds. I have yet to find one in a barn. I have had plenty of success with "Field Finds" though! :)

I sold a 65 coronet convert last year to a guy who then took it to Hershey to sell and he had on the windshield GENUINE BARN FIND.
I never mentioned where I got the car he just took it upon him self to adv it that way. It was in my new house garage when he first saw it.

Deceit knows no bounds in the classic car business.

unfortunately it's a marketing ploy, &/or an up-sale "IN Crowd" term
usually by a 2nd party (flipper) to attempt to get more $$$

it's way over used & very misleading at times too

there are still real Barn Finds out there

cars put away in a barn, outbuilding, big shop, storage area or big shed
on rural property usually,
IMO garages don't count (doesn't need to be found)
rediscovered by hunters/pickers (usually a 2nd party or family)
after someone in the family dies
or it's part of a stash/hoard that was put away, usually forgotten about
or the family didn't know etc.
IMO many, many scenarios where 'it can happen & still be real'

being a pessimistic, cautious,
my BS meter really goes off when I see the term used
to me most aren't real or they're very questionable

How about the other money maker? Patina! Yes, I didn't care for my car cosmetically, and left it outside the last 30 years. Yes, it needs $11,000 in bodywork and paint. But I want you to pay me extra for that privilege. Cool, eh?
