Just wondering how hard it would be to fit a 71-74 E body rear end in my 72 Roadrunner. Has anyone done this? I have an 8 1/4 in it so i know i’ll need the driveshaft resized.

I have been told the drive shaft length is not different when swapping to a 8.75

relatively easy.

almost the same width, but the perches are spaced different.

Probably

You will gain a little more than half an inch on each side going to an e body rear. 71-74 b body measures 47.3 inches center of perch to center of spring perch. E body measures 46 inches center to center

I put an 71-74 b body 8 3/4 under my 74 which had an 8 1/4 rear and used the same driveshaft. If you haven't had it done recently I would also recommend having your driveshaft balanced. Always gets rid of a little vibration when I do it on a car I haven't touched before

I think that means it'll bolt right up once the perches are set, but I have to ask: will that cause me any issues down the road?

I put a 72 RR 8-3/4 in my 70 Barracuda back in the 80s. The perches did need to be moved and also I had to use angled shims to set the pinion angle.

No man with a good car needs to be justified.

Spring perch widths (center-to-center)

'70-'74 E BODY = 46"

'71-'74 B BODY = 47.3"

When I switched my rears I did not have any issues down the road. Everything works fine

Thanks! Have you seen it before? I hauled it out of Ohio!
