I bought this differential. And the story is that it was from a 78 fury police car. But it has a different shaped cover. Not the normal stop sign / octagon shaped rear cover. Is this normal for this year police car? Or something totally different. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance. Tony.

Kinda looks like the bottom right 2 gaskets. Shown here. But looking at all the Dana rear ends none look like yours. 44,50,60 etc etc

@Tony Tee - That rear looks just like the one in my 77 Power Wagon I just got. I thought the same thing you did when I was trying to figure out what rear was in the truck. My FSM is calling it a 9.25” but it’s none like I’ve seen before.

Doesn't look like anything I have ever seen in a 60's or 70' Mopar. What do the brakes look like? Is the lug pattern 5 on 4.5? (I think it was swapped into the Fury from something else.....)

Axel flange to axel flange matches my 78 magnum . The bolt pattern is correct. the drum brakes match the 8.75 differential that's sitting right next to it. And the leaf spring pads have the big holes to accept the rubber insulators to match the magnums set up...then I took off the cover and the housing looks just like a standard 9.25 differential. So I guess the difference is only in the cover! I hope.

That still doesn't explain the 12 bolt cover vs 10 bolt cover, lol. That's curious.

Do the axle tubes narrow down toward the ends? Hard to tell from the picture. Tapered tubes = 9-1/4".
