The fury of March in the Upper Midwest!

And we are gonna start March with negative temps. Glad calving wont start for a couple weeks yet.
I know a few people who start in Feb. Ill bet this year they may regret it a bit.

Several have started around here too. I have one cow that prefers to stay with the bulls(jumps gates) that is on her own schedule. She calved in January right before that really cold spell. Calf is doing fine. I am hoping March is not cold AND wet.

Yeah my biggest fear is an ice storm.
Although right now I cannot handle much more snow. There are piles everywhere and the next snow event could result in 8' drifts everywhere

At least with the ground frozen I don't have to deal with the mud. The driveway is getting bad. The ground is so saturated the bottom has fallen out of it. Much more and the car will stay parked until it dries out.

Record cold today! For 3/3

We need a wall at the Canadian border to keep the alien cold aid out. Will spring come this year or will it be another winter to summer year?

This morning -17 and now the wind is 15 mph ---it is cold out and it goes right through. We had at least 16 inches of snow this past week. Forecast is for 30 by the weekend---sure hope so. This unusual for us too.

After Monday's blizzard, we got another 5 or 6 in on Wednesday, quickly cleaned that up. Had a moment on Saturday morning, thought I would check the barn, Like I said in the earlier post, that I have never seen it, that bad, here in 22 years. Made the second floor and was shocked, never seen snow inside the barn, like that. Couple of shovels, leaf blower, electric broom and a broom. A good 6 or 7 hours of clean up. I have been pondering baton or steel siding the barn for years now, after this weekend, maybe it's time to pull the trigger.

Last weekend, snow in Northern WI, rain in Southern WI. Highway 60 in the Sauk City area was first covered with water, then ice as the temperatures fell. The picture is just, well, not right...

I covered the entire inside of my barn with 4x8x1/2" Celotex. Old German built barn built in 1882, the batons were nearly all gone when I purchased the property so I just removed the rest of them. I'll post some pictures later.

Celotex?.....Tentest? Looks clean, but, we have used the barn for a few social events. Would not want to loose the inside appeal. The no baton construction allowed sufficient ventilation for hay. And those days are over, so, Baton over steel sheeting may be the plan.
Oh, yeah, -15 this morning, down to -20 tonight, another couple of days, of this crap, and it may warm up......possible maple syrup run, maybe, gotta check access.

One or the other. If I install batons to the existing barn boards, there still would be some leakage, split and cracked boards. Then if I baton it up, it will be followed up with some new paint. Problem is, painting wood, it would have to be repeated every 5 or so years. The look would be period correct, great looking century barn!!!! Now if I did tin, going to cost me a little more, however, once installed, I don't think I would have to paint it at all in the near future, probably out last me...
