Several have started around here too. I have one cow that prefers to stay with the bulls(jumps gates) that is on her own schedule. She calved in January right before that really cold spell. Calf is doing fine. I am hoping March is not cold AND wet.I know a few people who start in Feb. Ill bet this year they may regret it a bit.
Yeah my biggest fear is an ice storm.Several have started around here too. I have one cow that prefers to stay with the bulls(jumps gates) that is on her own schedule. She calved in January right before that really cold spell. Calf is doing fine. I am hoping March is not cold AND wet.
After Monday's blizzard, we got another 5 or 6 in on Wednesday, quickly cleaned that up. Had a moment on Saturday morning, thought I would check the barn, Like I said in the earlier post, that I have never seen it, that bad, here in 22 years. Made the second floor and was shocked, never seen snow inside the barn, like that. Couple of shovels, leaf blower, electric broom and a broom. A good 6 or 7 hours of clean up. I have been pondering baton or steel siding the barn for years now, after this weekend, maybe it's time to pull the trigger.
Well your roof looks good but those side walls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Batons over steel sheeting?Celotex?.....Tentest? Looks clean, but, we have used the barn for a few social events. Would not want to loose the inside appeal. The no baton construction allowed sufficient ventilation for hay. And those days are over, so, Baton over steel sheeting may be the plan.
Oh, yeah, -15 this morning, down to -20 tonight, another couple of days, of this crap, and it may warm up......possible maple syrup run, maybe, gotta check access.
