Need a little help please. Many years ago I sent a set of "tripower" Holley carbs to Jerry Luck Motorsports to be redone. They were in pretty bad shape. Jerry needed a custom aluminum polished radiator for a corvette magazine project so I built and shipped it to him. In exchange, he sent me back a set of carburetors with a story behind them. Since they were going on a BBC in a 1957 Chevy & since my carbs were really rough and missing all the vacuum stuff and since he knew it didn't matter to me which side the throttle linkage and the fuel inlets were on, he did me a solid and sent me what he said would be a surprise and it was! Inside the box was a brand new, never run complete set of Mopar version Holleys and they were chome and beautiful. I called him after receiving them and he told me they were made for a 6 pack debut 440 for the Detroit Auto Show for Chrysler. He told me after the show that they were to be removed from the engine destroyed!!! Jerry said they couldn't bring themselves to do it so they made their way home to a closet and had been there in a box for many years, waiting for the right guy... That being said, I guess that was me.

It seems as though I wrote the book on delayed gratification as just a few weeks ago, they were finally installed on my stroker BBC at the dyno shop and run and they performed wonderfully however, i am now having some misgivings on whether these carbs are too valuable to keep. They have now had fuel in them but been drained back down and removed from the engine. I am trying to find out if indeed these were done special by Holley for Chrysler and for this Detroit Auto Show debut if maybe they are too valuable to keep? IF the story is true, they would be 1 of 1 assuming this is provable.

Here is the info on the carbs themselves:

Center carb 3418550 LIST-4144-1 2372
cast number in air horn D-1565
6R (3405)B
stamped in bottom of throttle body is 91383
6
and 4383 3
Front & Rear carbs no list number I can find but cast in air horn is D-1565
6R (3406)B
stamped in bottom of throttle bodies is
91383
10
and 4517

So, can anybody help with this? If not, do any of you know someone who could. I presume this would be the 1970 Detroit Auto Show but not sure.

I have photos I can post or send if interested.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I would say since they are chromed they are not valueable to a restorer. The guy that did you a solid would probably prefer you kept them and used them and not sell them.

Agree with the "keep them" however there is no "prefer" as Jerry has passed away some years ago and I also did him a solid on the magazine vette project so really just quidproquo. In retrospect, just didn't want to waste them on a GM project when they may belong in a museum? The chroming, again, was supposed to have been done for a one time display for Chrysler, by Holley at a Big 3 expo ( Detroit Auto Show, 1970?)

The date on the center carb makes it a 72. Also the -1 makes it a replacement. Don’t look like anything special except the fact theyre chromed and cool.

The list And date should be on the back of the passenger side barrel on the outboards. Might be hard to see with the chrome.

According to my info, 4144 is the center carb for model year 1970. The date code 2372 is the 237th day in 1972, which means it is a replacement, over the counter carb, and was not installed on a 1970 vehicle.

Looks like they were gold and just polished not chromed. Maybe some of the linkage is chromed. It appears to be gold in some of the hard to get to places.

As the story goes, they were definitely not supposed to have been installed on a vehicle. Thank you for the numbers info though.

Definitely not gold. The chrome could be a little thinner in tight places and pretty sure part of the chroming process is to copper plate them 1st. In my hand, definitely chrome. Might be the lighting.

Thank you for the info. The list and date on the front and rears are not detectable other than part of one number on one carb. They are cool though, thank you! I just don't want to waste them if there are photos from whenever or where ever they might have been used by Chrysler for this "show" if it is true. Maybe there's a photo floating around somewhere from that era that might verify? If they're only worth a couple of grand, I will keep them and use them. If they are worth "a lot" then they need to go where they belong and I'll just run 6bbl F.I.

Reading this made me cough up my Wheaties...."did me a solid" has a whole different meaning down here....last time I did someone a solid, was for my Doctor, after a bout of gastroenteritis.

With the date code on the 4144 being 1972 and the 4383's being 70 rear,I don't see how the could have been for 1970 auto show as the sixpack carbs were already out for the 69 1/2 A 12 cars.

To me, there just chromed carbs. However, you can't get these carbs any more. This makes them valuable to the right person. Chomed or not.
IF you use them, enjoy them. Thats what they were built for.

I also don't care for the idea, true or not, that there a 1 of 1 show car yadda yadda yadda. Anybody with a good set can copy it. I don't care about the special wording of "Pedigree" because there just a chromed part.

Wow. Just saw this. No way they are worth 2k,maybe 1k. The chroming of them really screwed them up. IMO

Thank you 62MAX... That's why I posted this on this forum. Need info.

With chrome and all the linkage and fuel lines, are probably still worth at least "couple of grand" ... Would cost more to duplicate them then that based on this ad IMHO.
