Hello all, I have a question about headlamp bezels and how they install on a '68 Coronet. I See that the outboard headlamps sit a bit deeper in the fender than the inboard ones do - by perhaps 1/2" or so.

I have a hardware kit that includes the round plastic standoffs that snap into the headlamp mounting area of the fender. The headlamp bezels (not the rings, but the outer sections of the grill) screw into these four standoffs. These standoffs are, however, all the same length = 1.25". Shouldn't I have two long ones and two short ones per side?

Mebbe I need to shorten two standoffs and use them in the inboard positions; I dunno. Your advice is appreciated; thanks.

Well my car is not close, but I think they’re all the same; bezel screws all same length too.

Is '68 different than '69? '69 just uses a clip nut on the metal stand off.

Does anyone reproduce the stainless trim rings ?

I do know that the '69 setup differs from the '68 setup. In the case of the '69, both headlamp buckets sit at the same depth.

I might have mis-spoke when I asked my question, however. I am not referring to the bezels/rings that surround and hold the headlamps to the buckets. The '68 grille consists of three parts - the center section and two outboard sections. The outboard sections are attached to the fenders using round plastic standoffs. These items:

No picture.. '69 grill is the same, center + outboards, but the outboards screw into clip nuts that go on the metal stand off shown above. Didn't figure '68 would differ, but apparently it does so I can't help.

Should be lots of "as removed" rings out there. Mine looked like crap so i bought someone's take offs.. and then ended up polishing my old ones to better than new condition anyhow.

My 68 has the plastic standoffs on the two outside screws near the edge of the fender and nothing on the inside two screws near the grille centre.

The plastic push in stand off's are the same size around all headlights. The 68 headlight surround/grill extension is basically straight in line with the grill, so it sinks 'deeper' in the the quarter as it goes out from centre, this is because the quarter is not straight across but slowly comes forward. Looking down from above it is a bit M like. But not particularly overt.

So yeah they are all the same size, just line it up and screw it into the same sized standoff's.

And no repo's. If you screw up removing the anodisation like I did, you have many hours of sanding ahead of you to smooth it back out!
