I picked up a set of a 73+ B body disc brake spindles and brakes. Its not a full kit, I'm looking for a master cylinder, lines and prop valve. My questions are, should I get the lines from say a 73 charger? Also, master and prop from the same? And if I'm gonna go rob all that, should I grab the brake booster and just go power discs as well? Converting a 64 440 4 door with a 318 poly.

Perhaps email Dr Diff
HE should have a master and lines in stock

Doctor Diff can provide a master cylinder. I also recommend the conversion kit from Inline Tube. The Inline Tube kit has the two master cylinder lines as well as a new distribution block that bolts to the frame rail.

There is no doubt that Dr. Diff knows his stuff, however..... here's what you need to do since it sounds you're like me and have a rather low budget. Basically, you want to use a master cylinder from the same car the brakes came from. In your case that would be a 73 ish B body. This will make sure the cylinder bore is the correct size for the calipers. You may also need an adapter to mount it to your firewall depending if its a two or four bolt mount. If you want to go power then you'll need the booster as well. You may need to change out the pedal linkage too, depending on the length. In essence what you're trying to do is duplicate the brake system from the donor car. When it comes to the lines you can use a set from the donor car if there in good shape, make them up yourself, or if you're not up to that Inline Tube is an excellent source. I did my conversion from a 76 A body and used the entire setup, spindles, caliper mounts, calipers, and non power disk/drum master cylinder. The whole system just bolted on. All I needed to do was make up the lines and bingo, I had 11.75" disks up front. Easiest conversion I ever did and the cost was about a third of what a "kit" would have cost. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thanks. Yeah, I’m on a budget but this car is also a roadkill style build for the time being. Make it safe and driveable. Upgrade later as needed.

the brake line with the blue fitting will not bolt up to that style MC. it will bolt up to the GM style mc I just ran into that problem .

my entire conversion came from a 1976 Volare wagon. it swaps out perfect. I took upper control arm and just unbolted lower ball joint. I you would like Pictures I can take you some. i even used the poer booster forward and proportioning valve, bolted right in. Did have to get an adjustable rod.

Sorry for the errors!

that'd be awesome, thanks

I used brakes and spindles from a 75 Valiant sedan. I also used the proportioning valve from it as well.. For the Master cylinder, I wanted manual brakes so I used the Master cylinder for a 76 Volare with manual brakes (cast iron-4 bolt).
I put this setup on my 65 Belvedere and it has been awesome.
If you have trouble finding the M/C for the 76-77 Volare, try the manual M/C for the later 78-80 Volare. That one is an aluminum and plastic two bolt unit.

You must be thinking of something else. The kit I bought from Inline Tube bolts on to a Mopar master cylinder just fine.

Well i found my note on my conversion and here is a picture of them. Did this conversion in 1989 so here are the facts. Guess im getting old and memory not as sharp as it used to be, but here it is. See photo.

Good stuff guys. Now to find a 77 Aspen slant 6 wagon. I do enjoy the hunt connected to these old cars.

Don't limit yourself to just the Aspen. Any mid 70's "A" body (Dart, Duster, Valiant, etc) with disk brakes will work. On my '64 Polara I used spindles and caliper adapters from a '75 Dart and calipers from a '76 Dart, and the rotors from a '77 Monico which are stronger than their two piece counterparts. I also used a stock '76 Dart manual master cylinder and an adjustable proportioning valve from Summit Racing. The whole thing just bolted on with no real fabrication at all.

Are the spindles/caliper brackets available new?

I believe those might be the only items not available new.
