i have a 73 Charger with the original 400 big block. Running power steering. I have a 440source aluminum water pump and housing. No AC as of now, maybe one day I’ll add it.

I want to install a 130amp 1 wire alternator (I’ve added EFI and need the extra power for some other things), and due to the upped amperage, I want 2 belts for the alternator.

The new alternator is available in 1 and 2 groove pulleys

Does anyone know where I can get a 2 groove water pump pulley that will actually line up with this? I found a 3462685 pulley, but it’s too shallow. The stock pulley lines up great (3671318), but is only a single groove

What are your thoughts on a high amperage alternator with one groove? I’m given to understand it will slip the belt if there’s only one, cuz it requires more torque to spin

Help! This is preventing me from getting this car on the road!

Mine has a 2 groove alt, but single at the water pump. So 2 belts run the alt only. Crank to alt, I think the 2 rear ones. The 3rd one goes crank, water pump, power steering pump. 3 pulleys. You only need 1 on the water pump.

They also make cheap spacer kits to put behind the water pump pulley if it doesn't line up right with the alternator and other things. Good luck!

I have no idea about the pulleys ..
But...something you need to think about..
The amp meter in the dash ....I have read here that they are the source for many fires in the dash ..so much of a risk that people are converting them to volt meters instead...
From what I can gather the amp meter over heats the factory connections ether on the dash or at the firewall bulkhead..
So if you up the amps on 43 year old wiring that happens to have a flaw in its stock form ..
You maybe heading for a really bad day...

Just something to think about ..

Best of luck.

Maybe check with the guys over at C bodies only as the big Chryslers had multiple belts and arrangements thru the years. We did power steering and A/C on a 64 Barracuda and had to mix and match pulleys . The right combo for us came from a 73 C body.Just a thought..

Not sure if this helps you.

I used thee viscous fan package pulleys used with a AC car. Smaller waterpump pulley. Was a pain getting everything lined up but can be done.

The ammeter has already been bypassed in my set up. Is anyone here running a higher output alternator like this? Did you need 2 belts?

You can run the alternator with a dual-belt and the water pump with a single, as Gary stated above. The 440 source website has a chart with factory pulley numbers maybe it'll help...
The FSMs also show the various drivebelt routing setups for the different engine/accessory configurations. You can download different year manuals and diagrams at http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=31

I've been told that AC and non-AC water pumps have different length spindles.

That certainly could explain what I like to call "PULLEY HELL" when dealing with parts and pulleys that did not all come off of the same donor vehicle.

I've been told that AC and non-AC water pumps have different length spindles.

So, I'm just guessing the Proform (and other knock-offs) and Mopar Perf aluminum water pumps are same length spindles as a factory non-AC pump?? I know they are the same as an original factory aluminum race hemi pump for sure, and Im pretty sure those didn't come with a/c.:bananadance:

instead of running a dual V-belt have you put any thought into converting it to a wider serpentine belt? I know 440source makes some affordable pulleys to convert to them

I am currently debating the same thing - I don't think PS will work on my set up so is it easier to just get a new matching set of pulleys or find the one random pulley I need.

I don’t see anything about serpentine systems on 440source

Would the 440 source serpentine system require a reverse flow water pump? I have their “high flow” aluminum pump and housing

Shouldnt require a reverse rotation pump - it is not a single belt system which commonly turn the water pump with the back side of the belt - instead it is a replacement pulleys that work the same as stock - just utilizing the wider 6 rib belt (These are a lot like the old March pulley sets)
