Wow POMONAMISSEL that is a super set of triple “D’s”. Those Dodge’s,colored in Omaha Orange I presume, would look sweet paired with your slick Sport Fury. With the roll cage and big tach you obviously know how to have fun. The name Happy Dayz certainly fits right in this story!

So how to finish this trilogy of the Bermuda Triangle inc. that is filled with turbulent weather? First my vehicle that spun the smoking 180* than became a few 360’s ended in the pond again. It was pushed out and bailed out. As the 383 roared alive, spitting water out the tailpipes I slipped in my mix tape cassette into the player. As the car engine warmed up I relaxed to the tunes of Roadrunner by Humble Pie, Dear Prudence by Leslie West and dropped the column shifter into D when Born in Chicago by the Paul Butterield Blues Band kicked in. I’m feeling good, the brakes are drying out and here we go to the finish line.
The ‘40’s Willy was background eye candy in ‘More AG’ and there are 2 in the beginning staging lane scenes and shown in the shot later behind Paul LaMat aka Milner. The movie Hot Rod, also made in 1979, had this same Willy’s in a more prominent roll. In the movie is a scene were the driver’s door is open and seen inside is the green steering column that is a telescoping/tilt unit out of a Cadillac. It was powered by a supercharger. That reminds me of a classic car joke: What did the Supercharged Willy’s say to the Bird Catcher Corvette?........... Fuel Injection is nice but I’d rather be Blown. If you don’t know what a bird catcher is, go to We Did It For Love. com, it is a handy resource for Drag Racing Slang: A Language Unto Itself (as assembled by the late Ron Miller).....Anyways, soon after the Willy’s was in the hands of Jeff Renolds. It came with a sbc but in short order was propelled by a new Grumpy Jenkins 377 cu. in. mil. It ran a best of 9.80 and did 10.00 all day long. Great story of a nephew and the ride of his life coming up next.

So in the movie it was gray primer, then it went to black primer, then a red oxide primer, (I see a pattern here!) and then Bright Yellow. Hurrah! Now there is a yellow Willy’s car on the web called Hot Rod Willy’s this is not that car. Jeff’s Willy’s has been raced in California & Illinois and if the weather clear up in the Bermuda it will be out again powered by a mopar engine this time. And hopefully sporting a green T/T Cadillac steering column. If anyone knows of one Please PM me. Now on to the nephew. The story starts fun with the youngster in the passenger seat ready for a ride with his Uncle Jeff. Now the seats are Old School metal kitchen chairs welded to pipes strapped to the floor of the Willy’s. You already know where this is going! The nephew didn’t and when the slicks on the ‘40 Willy’s bit, the chair and the boy time traveled into the spacious truck. Unforgettable ride wouldn’t you say? This forbbodiesonly tale has accelerated quickly as my leadfoot cruise control keeps the Magnum humming at 90mph while on the Pioneer Super Tuner hits overdrive with the band Wishbone Ash driving the song The King Will Come through the 6x9’s. The finish line is within sight.

We are about to hit the light beam stopping the ET clock. A quick glance back is a straight line. But in reality it’s a circle. Below is the hauler, newly arrived, missing the massive gas tank that’s being cleaned. Sneaking up in the “you can’t see me now” green truck is Pat ‘O and the formally named Joey Six Pak in the FFFFord Pickup. The ‘64 Hauler’s gold leaf was applied at Marty Burmistrz’s spacious shop in New Lenox. Marty’s Vega will be running faster with some mods at Rt. 66 and Rt.41 dragstrips in Illinois & Indiana, and his friend Dan has a Duster, I’ll have to check out both. Brad Curtin also supplied some cool photos of the hauler. Lastly there are photos of the Belvedere at Gateway dragstrip in St. Louis and a couple interesting closeups of Jeff in the divers seat. I thought the Passenger side dash looks boss but then I learned that in the full photo you can easily see through the wing vent window an ordinary post it note left of the steering wheel . What Does It Say?
It’s instructions from The Master John Comstock instructing the grasshopper how to pilot and what RPM to shift at for a successful run in the Belve. Now that’s an inside story.

I picked up the time slip and again the magnum ran too fast and it’s a breakout. Pat ‘O is Up In Smoke as the Belve splattered him with little pellets off the tires. The photo of the cool dude with the 3-D glasses, that is the penance if he messed up something. The girls? Well it isn’t a car story without some fan support and besides they have some nice mugs there and they’re filled with cold tasty beer too! Also in Europe, I saw on other posts, at their drive-in movie theaters they show American Graffiti. That’s cool. Boy this was fun but it feels like ten years gone.

That’s quite a collection and personally the 383 will always be a favorite. The one in the Roadrunner took a ton of abuse and never let me down.
A lot of gear head history and
Special parts lined up to be utilized. Fun to see and hear.
The steering wheel assemblage has peaked my interest and just about everything else for that matter. I could get lost for hours just gazing around and learning.
Great to see your passion. Happy Cruising!!

The Bermuda Triangle inc. is planning to bring the Rettig Brothers ‘63 Belve & ‘64 Hauler to the Chicago area “World of Wheels” that is being held this March 8th thru the 10th.
Now is a chance to see all the kool stuff at this extravaganza, that’s if you can put down that smart newspaper for a few hours!
We don’t have anything free to give away but stop by for some questionably stories, terrible advice, lies, fibs & prevarications and the ultimate get rich scheme. Just tell them haywire sent you.

The Omaha Orange Belve is easily spotted from across the room. It’s in a holding pattern at the Chicago World Of Wheels as exhibitors and show planners finalize vehicle placement.
The Dodge D-500 rumbled it’s way along the super highways of Chicagoland like a Woody Allen character waking up 50 years in a bewildering future. Well it’s actually been 55 years since this ‘64 car hauler started making “road trips”. The current 413 engine aggressively purred as the speedometer needle swung between 40 and 50 mph. The 2-speed rearend is in high and the manual transmission is jammed in 4th. The heavy Dodge is about topped out speed wise and the gaggle of semi trucks passing us by are most probably not as amused as the two carnuts inside this Dodge. Good thing there was our trusty trailer vehicle driven by
an ultra alert trailer truck professional. Did anyone ever tell you, you have some Sweet emergency flasher lights?
The Rettig Bros. car hauler is now positioned in a VIP underground parking location and will be making its grand entrance into the show arena when summoned.
Extra!! Extra!! We highlight some spy photos of the “Wheels” show setup of mopars in progress. Check out the steel polished Daytona, unbelievable, plus a must see in person 1969 Dodge “Super Wanna Bee” Convertible concept. WOW, y’all gots to make it.

Pat O’, is in the middle of friends Greg and John in front of this unique exhibit.
World Of Wheels is hopping big time on this Saturday afternoon.
“This combination ‘63 car and ‘64 truck are drawing HUGE attention, covfefe.” tweeted President Trump in the early evening. I can’t argue with that.
A unique “barn find” was a Rettig Bros baseball hat that was lost under the rear seat for a long time. The dashboard has some classic gauges including an old school tachometer. Lastly is a view of the crowd from the steering wheel perspective.

Many good races against that car. John offered to trade it to me for my 63 Dodge N/SS car. Stupidly I turned him down.
