Does anyone know where I can get the tar like black patch that covers up the seam for the deck filler panel? This is for my 69 GTX convertible and my guess is that this tar / fabric like material was there to cover up the seam in case there was any sharp edges that could have cut up the convertible top.

Does anyone even repro this?

My car was at the media blaster and I forgot to remove these to get a sample of them to duplicate. The blaster did a great job of removing it so I really don't have anything left to compare it to.

Thanks in advance !

its called seam sealer
white was on the outer seams
black was for the inside seams
I have used 3m and werth
shop around, many places sell it

This is seam sealer like I've never seen before. This tar like substance seemed to have fabric in it too. Maybe to prevent it from getting the tar onto the convertible vinyl top. Also, why put the seam sealer on the bottom side of the panel and not the top where water would come in from. Water naturally doesn't go upward.

Thats too thin. This stuff I want to say was easily 2" wide. maybe 4" long

I would contact them and see what they have?

when it comes to seam sealer
the factory used it like it came from a 55 gallon drum.
when you start to try to replicate what was there
you sure go thru a lot of it.

what is funny is what you are describing sounds like Karnak roof repair fiber tar
they sell in 5 gallon buckets at home depot

yeh, but this seemed to be in a straight rectangular strip that seems like it had cloth on it.

Here's an idea since I "think" I know what you're talking about. Why not cut some strips of gauze from a Walgreens/CVS and use it like fiberglass mat? Smear sealer, gauze, smear sealer & repeat. That way you can cut it to the exact dimensions you want.

Otherwise, I think flypaper is right that it's some type of seam sealer tape from the factory.

Any pics of the area you’re talking about? You’ve made me curious if my car still has this stuff on it
