I need to refinish mine, the front and rear studs/bolts go into the water jacket on both sides right or is it just the front?

I've found heads that the studs went into the water jacket just front and back. Then I've had ones that were in the middle also. I just make sure I use sealer on all of the manifold studs and bolts.

Thread resurrection.
But all of them as in ALL OF THEM? Just asking. Im putting HP manifolds on my 452 heads tomorrow evening.
What sealer, Indian Head or equivalent shellac?

I like to use the Permatex #2. Stays soft to a certain extent and I never had problems with a leak, even on intake manifold bolts. It will also let you re-torque the bolts later without causing a leak.

I have the 452 heads on my 440. After installing headers I had the second stud back on the driver's side weeping. I had only used sealer front and back. It made me remember that I had seen this before years back. So I pulled each one and applied sealer to the rest of them. About three more were wet when I pulled them. I guess it all depends on how deep the holes were drilled. Be on the safe side and do them all.
