You can measure it if you have a degree wheel and dial indicator?

68-.30 440 with flat tops piston

No Dial indicator

If you check the other post there are some pictures

It's always nice to know what pistons are in it. Consider measuring the piston at TDC relative to the deck (I.e. compression distance). This is easy enough with a straight edge and feeler gauges.

Looks like an intake valve was spending quality time with a piston.
Agreed...those pistons have "eyebrows", so either too much duration without valve reliefs in the pistons or some borderline-weak valve springs that couldn't close the valves fast enough at high rpm. I suggest you check all the valves to see if they're bent while you have the engine apart.

Not actually sure if the heads that came with the motor was the 1's used, I'm not going to reuse them anyway, a small hydraulic is what I'm thinking depending on what I find out about the cam in question

Okay I spoke with a tech guy from crane and he said the spec's are 265/275 @ 50 lift is 563-585 with a 1.5 rocker was unsure of the love separation since no other numbers are stamped on it

Thanks everyone

Uhhhmmmm, yeah. That cam is WAY, WAY, WAY too big for the valves to clear the pistons. I'm sure it started to knock very hard the moment it was first started.

Yeah if they actually used the 906 heads that came with the motor i don't think there was enough spring pressure
