74 charger Spectra Heater Core rant!

Last year while i was taking apart the interior to replace the floors i figure i would buy a new heater core although i must say the original one looked great. So finally i started working on the heater box since it's cold outside. Got everything from DTM, replaced all the foam, made sure everything worked right, painted everything up and finally got to the heater core.

The new one was bent, warped and the flange hit the heater box corner not allowing it to sit flush. I figured i bought it early last year, maybe they dropped it during shipping and for 50 bux, i decided to get another one. Forgot where i got it from...

I purchased a new one from pep boys on ebay (Spectra Premium Heater Core 94520) they never shipped it, message them and they re-shipped it. Today i get two from Fedex. LOL

Both are bent and warped and the flange was braised about 1/8 too high so it doesn't sit right. Out of the two i took the better one modified the surrounding flange and took the one holding the pipes off to re-braise it so it fits.

Just wanted to say Spectra stinks! $%#^$%#^$%^ ... 3 heater cores and not a single one was straight. Complete garbage.

Well despite their crappy craftsmanship i got it done... not too shabby looking for 45 years old...

Long ago I worked beside a rad shop
They put a band around the heater cores so they could not expand as a extra safety
for them self's and their customers

I had similar problem, but local radiator guy was able to take the bracket/flange off the original and replaced the crappy one on the new core with it and worked like a charm, and fits perfect.

Yup same here wouldn't fit..it came from the U.S and I was not going to pay to send it back..cut the tubes off got some 1/2" 90s and pipe and made my own....yes it can be done LOL
