I am switching my ignition. It is currently under hood. I am moving the box to inside the car. I have seen the coil mounted in car and under hood. When I see a four foot coil wire I shudder but is this a good way to go. I would appreciate thoughts on this. Thanks. Dave

I would suggest you keep you coil/distributor wire as short as possible to minimize voltage drop along the wire + insulated from heat as best as possible too (short coil/dist wire is more important than heat in my opinion).

Yes keeping the coil-to-distributor wire short is a good thing, that wire fires with every pulse unlike the spark plug wires. Longer wire=more resistance. I also relocated my ECU inside though to keep it cool(and hide it). However, I noticed that being mounted directly to the firewall, even though inside, it still got pretty warm...so I mounted it on a piece of 1/8" aluminum plate cut to match the ECU, and used some Gylon gasket material(it's like a dense foam type of stuff) sandwiched in between the two to provide an insulating layer..works great now the only heat it sees is what it produces while operating.

The potential for RF/EM interference in a coil wire is great. I wouldn't trust a long coil wire but if you do, make sure it's path is completely isolated from all other wires. Ignition box trigger wires are also very susceptible to RFI/EMI. They must be isolated as well even when using a shielded cable such as the MSD 8862.

If it's strictly a race car, I did this for a friend on his 63. It's a piece of lexan on drawer sliders in the glove box. Works pretty good and is real easy to access.

My MSD Digital 6+ box has been up front under the hood for nearly a decade. Never an issue.
