I am addressing the faded paint on aluminum grill and tail panel of my 69 Coronet that has faded and chipped off. Specifically the semi flat black detailing both front and rear of these aluminum bezels. I have searched through the archive to try and get recommendations but either overlooked them or didn't go back far enough to find what I needed.
The first objective is to find the correct paint used to freshen these pieces up, who makes it, correct color and where I can find it. The second quest is finding a procedure as to how I prep and rejuvenate these pieces. My pieces still have paint in the correct places, just somewhat faded. Do I somehow scuff the black areas up and remove all waxes and polishes off and then try and "paint" a new coasting on? Or do I need to reapply some type of primer over the faded paint areas and then retouch up all the areas? I am sure this will be a very time consuming process, but I would appreciate any guidance that could be offered as to correct paint and the "HOW". I am no painter and am lost as to where I should begin with this. Thanks for any info.....

On the grill, the Argent area need prep advice from someone here. Tried once, and it peeled in the wind. Needs to be etched or whatever in order to adhere. 5.7hemi knows.

I agree completely.

@Mocajava , refinishing these panels would be quite a test for someone self described as having no paint experience. You're going to want to start by removing the grille and headlight bezels, cleaning them thoroughly with warm soapy water (I use dish soap) then clean them again with TSP following the instructions on the box. Head to your local parts jobber and pick up a box of nitrile gloves, some 2", 1/2" and 1/4" masking tape, some "light" Scotch Brite pads, a "tack cloth" and a box of single edge razors. You're probably going to be able to find a can of "Satin Black" for your tail light bezel here as well.
If you don't already have some also pick up a bottle of isopropyl alcohol.
You can pick up the correct Argent paint here:

Lionized I appreciate you jumping in here and your advice. Educate me please, what is TSP and Argent paint....name brands for something specific?

TSP is Trisodium Phosphate. Available at your local Home Depot. It's packaged in a small cardboard milk carton type container. It's used to prepare/wash items for painting.
Argent is the name of the silver color used on our grilles. I simply used a two stage base color (no clear top coat) but the link I posted above is for the supplier of the actual color used.

Thanks Lionized, great info. My grill area that is faded is the semi gloss/ satin black coloring. I haven't heard anything from 5.7hemi and still wondering if that is oil base, latex...etc and the proper primer if needed.

No grille from the factory EVER had any primer on it. So this is what I do when redoing a grille. It’s stripped down to the aluminum, meaning the brite dip from the factory is taken off. All the areas that were brite dipped are sanded then polished. All buffing compound is wiped off with Acetone. Now I mask off those areas so I can paint. Scuff the areas that are to be painted with a Red Scotchbrite pad. Wipe off again using Acetone. First coat is light, just enough to slightly cover the area. Wait a few minutes, hit it again with 2nd coat. Should look pretty good at this stage. If not, wait a few minutes, hit it again.

Now for the correct colors, Totally Auto has all the factory colors, but they are pricey, about 24 bucks a can.

Great info and directions! I knew there was someone in the " FBBO family" that had done this and could explain to a novice! I will follow up with the Satin Black from Totally Auto to see if they can ship it. BTW, is this an epoxy type paint, oil base ….certainly not a latex? Probably has some etching properties to it also....Thanks again!
