Could a 69 Bee be ordered with an open rear?

My 70 Six Pack Super Bee was a well optioned car but did have an open rear (3:23). It also has a 22” radiator. I believe if it had a sure grip or a 4 speed it had a 26” rad.

Above post had 2 swings and 2 misses. A sure grip or 4 speed do not get you a 26” radiator.

The only way you got a 26” radiator in 1968 and newer B-bodies is with A/C, trailer towing, max cooling, or an optional gear ratio “axle package”.

Your Super Bee with 323 open is the standard rear axle so no goodies with that.

No Dana 60 with a 383.

* correction above* I was referring to,383 cars. A hemi or 440 4 speed got a Dana 60 with sure grip*

Define “axle package”.

Axle package(anything with 3.55 and higher number ratio)
A31 hi performance axle package 3.91. W 340-383 AT & 4 speed
A36 performance axle package 3.55. W 340 383 AT & 4 speed, 440 AT

Both include sure grip, max cooling, 7 blade torque drive fan, hemi suspension.

A32
A33
A34 only for 440 and 426 engines. NA with 340 or 383

So, could a car come with a sure grip and a 22” rad.?

My '70 RR also came with a 3.23 open and 22" radiator. Most that i have worked on had open diff's.

Sure grip was an option on the 440/auto 67 GTX so doesn't surprise me at all that it was an option on the 383 RR and Super Bee.

My 66 Hemi Satellite auto 8.75 no sure-grip.
That just seems crazy to me. Why would a person order that engine with an open rear. Or why would the factory not make it standard with a Hemi?

Original owner liked cars but not a racer, look at the car he traded in. He also owned a 50's era MG also.

Well sort of, any 440/426 and a 4 speed = 26 inch radiator, Dana 60. 3.54 gear only in 68. 69/70 was either 3.54 or 4.10 depending on what options were chosen.

This is strange. So from reading this thread to this point, it was possible to have a Plymouth Road Runner with a 383 and have an open diff.

How does this grab you, I have a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere 4 door /6 auto that has a 2.94 sure grip. During the parting out process I've discovered that this was a "fleet" car due to a coaxial cable going up to the center of the headliner (near the dome light area) for most likely a CB radio. Also there was a radio 10 code cheat sheet attached to the underside of the driver's side sun visor. White car stripped of options. Rubber floor mat, radio delete, no AC, base trim. Detective car? Taxi Cab?

Slant 6 with a sure grip! But only 2.94 ratio! I'm most definite that it is original to the car.

My brother and I both had new 68 Chargers. Mine was an R/T while his was not. His had the 335 hp 383 with 4 speed. (one of I think 157 built) It had a 3.23 open rear and a 22" radiator with no shroud. Mine had the 375 hp 440 with 4 speed and 3.55 sure grip and a 22" radiator with shroud and clutch fan. Both cars were bought off of the lot and not special ordered. I remember seeing all kinds of differences between supposed muscle cars back in the day. I don't recall seeing any A/C cars with 22" radiators but do remember some non A/C cars with 26" radiators. Chrysler did lots of goofy stuff. That must be why they say "Never say never".

Guys this stuff is not goofy. A sure grip is an option in most cars.
*Dana 60 cars and all Superbirds had suregrip standard (T/A & AAR also could be more)
*A 22” radiator the standard size on most engines 1966-1972
*A/C, max cooling, trailer tow, 3.55 and up ratio add the 26” radiator
*A/C V8 B-bodies 1966 -1972 got the 26” radiator.
*all 426 Hemi cars had 26” radiator from 1966-1971
*all 1967 GTX R/T and 440 Chargers came with a 26” radiator as part of the package

Examples from the last few posts:
*Fran Blacker hemi Satellite came with and open rear end
*So the slant 6 Belvedere above had the sure grip option, but little else
*A 22” radiator is standard on a 383 with 323’s. 4 speed and sure grip do not change the fact.
*Your 68 Charger R/T had optionl 3.55 sure grip gears so it comes with the 26” radiator

*A 68 Charger R/T 440 with a 323 ratio would have a 22” radiator, with no other options to add the 26” radiator (A/C, max cooling or trailer towing)
*notice all the great musclecsrs in this post that came with an open rearend. PLENTY

None of these examples are goofy

Leaf springs planted the tires decent with 383s and 3.23s in these cars. Fom a standing start at least when things were not shot they tried 2 spin both tires unlike the gm cars which went up in a blaze of single tire smoke.
And to add to the muscle car b body list we have a 69 bee 383 auto and a open 3.23 and 69 charger 383hp, auto ac car 3.23 open. It seems like 70 and newer muscle cars perhaps got a limited slip ordered more, or maybe the cars were in the salvage yards more during my parts hunting days. They seem more common?

I grew up in Wisconsin, with icy roads in the winter. A lot of people did not like posi rear ends around here, due to the fact they were harder to drive on slippery roads.

I’m definitely glad my 69 runner came with the original chunk. It was the A31 3.91 suregrip. Bagged it and keeping it. I’ve got a 489 chunk with a new suregrip and 3.55s going in it. 383 N96 car though.

I was a dealer rep back then
if you went fleet and got the show car or race car order sheet you could get most anything that was possible to build and if not it came in the trunk
like 383 Superbird 4 speed with air
any paint
etc
