Can someone tell me which of these pickups is correct for a 440 with a 402 oil pan?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Yes it has a windage tray. I am confused by your answer. You state probably pic 1, yet you show an engine with a tray and pickup number 2.

Number 2 is the correct part. Needs that “S”bend.

#1 will not fly in a 402.

I’m not sure about the 440 but on a 383 if that’s not an original pickup it won’t fit either. The after market ones are longer than the originals. The after market ones have to be cut and welded.

I ran into the same issue with the oil pickup being too long and it hit the bottom of the 402 oil pan. Everyone said to cut and weld, which didn't make sense to me why you should have to do that.

I talked to a lot of people, and finally found an answer that made more sense. I was told that they are intentionally made long so you can size them for your particular oil pan. We didn't end up cutting/welding mine. We got the right size pipe thread die and extended the threads further up the tube and cut a little off the end. We did a little at a time until it was the right length, the right amount of thread, and fit like we wanted it to.

#2 is correct for a 402 pan. the original pick-up for the original 402 pan for the original 440 in my '69 r/t was a little long. I just trimmed the threaded end to fit.
