What a month I’m having. After adding a 1/4” return line for the vapor breaker, new fuel sender, new 3/8” fuel supply line, and new pump, now the pump is failing. Car cut off 4 times this morning and fuel pressure is down to 1 psi and fuel is at bottom of sight glasses. I see why people give up. Ugh.

Any recommendations for a fuel pump? I really want to keep the vapor separator. It does make the pressure bounce from 5-8 lbs when working due to the return line relieving pressure. Don’t really want an electric pump or fuel pressure regulator either. Is the pricy Edelbrock pump any good? Will it keep up with the separator?

I don't know the specifics, but Edelbrock makes some good products, so I suspect the pump would be just fine. Spectra Premium is a Chinese importer of stock-replacement parts.....some parts are decent, but definitely not "top quality"

Guess I got my $27 worth.

Had an Edelbrock Street 150 GPH. Quit at the Sultan Sea after about 2 years. Rusty and seized inside. Got a duplicate overnight and it failed in about 300 miles. Bought over the counter auto store to get home, then went back to mechanical pump.

try the carter brand fuel pumps some are pricey.

Have you checked length of push rod operating pump as to short will give you trouble

I installed a new one 4 months ago. Literally in 1 week the pressure went from almost 8 psi down to 1. Stock pump I replaced kept 5 psi for months.

Checked it. 3.2” long and not worn. Thanks for the tip!

carter 6903. that's all I use,......for decades.

This is the one you should use.

The M4862 might be too much and cause you other problems

I have a 4862 and did my "bench test" thing with it. it would really pump some liquid compared to the 6903 but at 9psi. the 6903 is very street friendly.

I have a cheap china pump I bought from rock auto just to make my 440 run. I'll let you know if it fails.

I bought the higher flow pump and added a return line and pressure regulator. We’ll see how it goes.

what regulator? some of them only have .210" outlet ports, and some don't work good with pulse pumps.

I’m using this one with 1/4” return to the tank. So far so good. It did pump some gas out the vent last night. Was doing 45 and dropped it into second with light throttle cruise to mimick highway condition. Went about 200 feet then went rich and lightly wet the filter. Came home, reduced pressure to just under 6 psi. Just did a test drive, dropped it into second, light throttle, went about a mile and no issues. We’ll see if it holds. If not, maybe a more expensive regulator is in my future.

Getting ready to road trip from Florida to Atlanta and need this issue resolved!!!
