Need help with engine ID

Have a motor from a 1973 motor home 73 dated block on the pad is J440T under that is 2-15. Any info on pad numbers? This motor also has a regular damper and no balance weights on the converter. The rod part number is 2951908. looks like a forged crank.
Part number on heads 4006542? Thank you

I think some body has been inside your engine. J is model year 1973, 440 is c.i.d., T not sure, 2-15 is the assembly date. Feb. 15 1973. The rod numbers are the heavy 440 rods according to my info, which require external balancing. The cyl.heads were made from 76 to 78 . I think the last three digits should be 452.

Thanks for the response, Yes that's the correct number for the heads. Looks like someone replaced the heads sometime.

452 heads would be period correct. A cast crank will have 440 embossed into it. I dont think the forged cranks has the 440 embossed into them. Here is a picture of a cast crank for a 440. Your rods are what are referred to as 6pak rods. So I would think the forged crank is legit with the 6pak rods. I bet your engine came out of an RV and thats why it has the heavy duty rods and a forged crank. I wasnt that lucky with my 75 block.. It had the plain old 440 rods and a cast crank.

As I mentioned before, the heavy- 6 pack rods need to be externally balanced or have heavy metal added to the crank to internally balance it. Keep that in mind.

I have read that this motor has the six pac rods but the factory used lighter pistons and keep the internal balance

They are also low compression pistons I bet. So they sit lower in the hole. Like said above J=73, CU 440, T=Trenton plant. Look a little more on that pad for other letters or numbers.

I have had/ seen many 440s with steel crank and 908 rods and they are NOT externally balanced. The first 1 I had was a 1970 440 4 barrel out of a Chrysler 300. Most are from trucks and motor homes that I have had. Kim
