Hi
I am toying with the idea of putting a 470 together, this is with TFS 240 heads and 2" step headers, I have a set of 1.32 Ross Flat tops and I do have a Molnar 3.91 crank. I just need to buy 6.70 rods. Ok with that being said the compression would come up to 11.50 with what I calculate a Dynamic of 8.9. The power level should be around 660 on both. the area i'm in is at sea level. From y'all experience would that compression be acceptable on 94 pump gas?
Also at what power level do you think the bottom end of that 72 400 that already has ARP Main studs will need caps? If I do need caps Which caps for a street strip? Aluminum or steel?

Thanks

Sounds like a nice build. Can't say on the caps needed. I'm building a 512, 4.25 crank and 6.535 rods. 400 Block. Using stock main caps and bolts. Stage VI heads, 13 to 1. Didn't realize the 3.9 crank works with 6.7 length rods, and a 1.32 C Height piston. That's the height I'm using, 1.322 ICON flat tops.

I have a 470 built off of 73 400 block. I bought it used a few years ago. It has been together 20 years. It has factory main caps with studs and a 1/2 in girdle. The block is half filled with hard block/ cement.i have stage 6 heads. It is 11.2-1. I run 112 mixed half and half with 91 pump to be on the safe side. It dynoed 655 hp and 620 tq way back then. I tink I would lower the comp to 11.0 if I were u. Kim

Thanks for the info, I see you half filled it, does that provide enough cooling for a street/strip car??

one thing that would solve the questions around the block is to look into "The Block". Is that around? I heard that Muscle Motors that were selling it are no longer in business, anyone else sell them?

The guy I got it from drove on the street from time to time. My car is just for the track. 74 duster with the factory 2 core 26 inch rad, and factory declutching 7 blade fan. Don’t have a shroud. It will idle all day long at 190*. The rad is a 4 gear rad so I just run a separate tranny cooler. Kim

Watching this one also as I have parts for my 470 build and unsure if the stock caps will be okay, I was handed a set of aluminum main caps that are used. Im going to be using a ,1.4ish piston for my build

With the right cam 11.5 is possible but I'm with kimmer on this one especially if you are planning on streeting it more than racing it. Having a tight quench helps too....and I like it tighter than the 'safe' .040".

" The Block " is available by special order. Cost is $ 4199 in rough machined form. Current lead time is 8 - 12 weeks. MM can also furnish parts to complete the build as well. Please let me know if this of interest to you ?.

Thanks
