swap meet tomorrow, car under snow, how common is sure grip? cannot get car jacked up to check if mine is posi, 383 4bbl hp. no ac.no power or tinted windows, most other options.fender tag does not have tires or diff info.

Mine is a 383 auto. It's a one legged. I believe you are looking for a sure grip or track lock

Bruce H Canam. Posi is a GM term. We don't talk GM here. Sure grip was an option. How common, not sure. I would think it would be very with the muscle cars. I would think HI-PO 383 is sure grip. I'm not an expert. Hope this helps.

After many years of 66-67 B-body watching, I have found the suregrip option absent on most automatic trans cars with or without 383 (most hemi cars have it).
Seems more 4 speed cars had the option.
I have or had: 1- 67 Charger 383 hp 4spd., 2- 440 hp 67 w/AT, 66 383 AT all with no factory suregrip.

Mine is a 67 383 HP automatic with suregrip. Original with the car.

I have a 67 383 4sp Charger, came with an 8 3/4 3.23 Suregrip. I think it was about a $50 option, but it seems less common. Dana 60 in bigger engine cars, partularly with 440 4sp.

I have the same Suregrip and my car was a special order. Was always curious how many special order cars there were for the 67.

Attached some info I received from the Chrysler Museum folks when I requested a build card. These specs are for 1967 Charger but show the sure-grip option was available for automatics.

From everything I've seen, read etc. There was no 383 2bbl as they list on those sheets. A 361 2bbl was an option but they are rarely seen especially with a 4 speed.

Would that not be the basic 383? When from the factory the 383 4bbl would have been the 383 HP block.

The sheets are specific for 1967 Charger. Sorry for the confusion. I put them on to show that sure-grip was offered as an option for automatics. 361s were available in 1966 but not in 1967 that I am aware of. I added the "1967 Charger Only" to clarify the earlier post.
