Finally had nice weather again to go cruising, and started car went to back out garage and had no reverse! It would not engage until I gave it more fuel and clunked pretty bad. Then drove down highway and would not upshift into 3rd.440,727b tranny. Fluid looks clean, full. Any ideas? Plan on dropping the pan tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you check level warm in neutral? It's not uncommon to have the converter drain back when sitting for a long time. Slow to go into reverse would be the symptom.

Checked fluid warm in neutral, full nice and clean. Checked in park -was a little high. Car worked great last weekend in a parade! Not so good now

Is there not a vacuum line that goes to the transmission?
Ive had that happen on mid 70s truck. Vaccum line running down to transmission wore a hole in it and the truck wouldnt shift out of low until I redlined it.(dont worry it was a chebby)
I know not the exact same symptons that you describe but worth a look

There’s no vacuum line on a 727.

Before you pull the pan check that the kickdown linkage is attached and works freely.

No amount of kickdown linkage should keep it from going into reverse at idle speeds.

Yes. The seal on the reverse/ low servo could have blown so then u would not have reverse only as it actuated the rear band. Possibly if ur kd linkage slipped all the way to the back as in putting throttle pressure on the pin . It wouldn’t have high gear till 70 or so mph. That depending on ur gear ratio. Check that first. Pull the pan and report back. Kim

If you have a service it will say how to do an air pressure test. That could tell what's wrong.
Mymopar reference , download service manual for your car.

Dropped the pan and this is what I found. It’s a powdery substance on the bottom. Filter has shavings on it.

Is there lots of play in the rear band. It may be out of adjustment if the lining came off of it. Then the rear band is toast. Kim

Front clutch is used only in Reverse and 3rd. What's the history, new trans or been working and the problem just started?
